Question for those that pull with an auto trans...

When pulling an '06 truck what would be better overdrive off or tow haul mode?

never heard of this. i am courious as to what can of set up this is?

It is some sort of a switch used in a 350 transmission. And its mounted to the firewall sideways so when the back of the throttle hits the switch it opens the switch and locks the convertor

when u back out of the throttle, does it unlock it automatically? if so, i want one.

I usually do 4 lo and leave it in 2nd tow haul, that was before the A5K though.

I might try and manually shift it to keep rpm's up.

I believe what he is referring to is a micro switch. they are small switches that normally have a metal rod or flat metal piece coming out of the side of them. When you push on the metal piece with much force at all is clicks and completes the circuit. When pressure it taken off of it, it comes back out and breaks the circuit again. It would be real easy to set one up.

I have a manual lockup switch in my truck. I put it in 2nd gear, spool it up to about 5lbs and turn it loose. It spools about as soon as it starts rolling that way, and then when it shifts to 2nd automatically around 2800-3k I lock the converter and keep it locked until i come out of the throttle at the end of the track.

I think you will be ok you have alot of fuel. I have to manually shift mine keep after I stepped up from the A5k

try o/d off

If you are gonna lock up convertor it would be a good idea to turn od off. I found that out the hard way the other night. Made me tie for last place instead of 2nd.

You could do the same with a momentary switch. Just figure out where the pedal stops at and the distance it (switch) will ground out convertor.

i turn o/d off and lock the converter with in 25 feet and let it shift on its own and turn the converter off the the sled slams me. im running a goerend trans

I start out in first but usually sit at the line and build boost til the turbo is good and toasty then it's lockup-second in the first 30-40 feet and I let it catch third about 100 feet out.

Yes if your foot was to come off of full throttle the convertor would unlock. But I still have a manual switch right beside my ratchet shiffter that will unlock the convertor (if i should need it, i have never unnlocked it) without taking your foot off of the throttle.. Its like the main power to the switch under the throttle. You just have to make sure it is on before you come out of the hole :bang

I have never left the overdrive on thats why I told him to shut it off. if you talk to dusty he will tell you to shut if off anyway or someone at the shop did.

YEah I just forgot to do it had my Smarty with defuel off and the lightsare out and I forgot. I was my first night pulling with the tq lock out switch.

I start out and finish in drive. I use to do it manually but as the power level has went way up I just let it do its thing. Seems to be working as of now. We'll see what happens at Scheids though.

Ive done better lately by not locking the converter, when I do it kills the charger

Take a look at the St Charles Co. pull video I put up today and you'll see at the end of it what the od on does. Here is another video of the next night of pulling and the switch and od off.

I think I was the 4th or 5th truck its the red on after Fine Finish.

I just started waiting till I get some speed up bout 100-125 ft and lock it then. It still throws the truck forward when I hit the switch.

In this video You can hear the load getting put on the engine When I locked the converter. I put it in second with O/D off and it seems to work pretty well
