Diesel Tech sells aftermarket rods. We dont know what the limit is on #2 yet. So far 500 isnt a problem and some are even going well over 600 on #2.

More choices for rods coming over the winter. No real limit set in stone, some seem to not like 500, others can spin 750 on stockers.

Rods seem to be a lot like an HEI module....You never know when they are going to leave you walking..LOL

There is not going to be a HP level that you can really call out. What fails rods is excessive cylinder pressure. This can happen at 450 RwHp with the wrong tune. I think a good rule of thumb would be 500 RwHp as the limit to stock rods. If you planning on more than 550 RwHp you had better plan on rods soon.

and with the rods ,prolly a block too they usually go out hand in hand.

maybe not so much hp, but how you drive it too. if your using the power all day long, wont last so long. short bursts seem to help

Our short bursts are 1/4 mile or 300+ feet at a time.

The new motor with the Crower rods hopefully will last with some more hp thrown at it.

Is there a weight difference between the factory rod, and the stronger Crower rod?:poke:

The current aftermarket rods are the same weight as the stockers so you can swap them straight into the motor.

LOL LOL LOL The most absolute statement I've seen today!

I havn't seen a block yet from ANY manufacture that has survived rod failure. Timing seems to be the main killer in this area with the use of accelerants or a poor tune. Big, ugly cylinder pressures on the rods at a bad angle (reiterating what was said). Some of us are squeeking closer and closer to the 700hp mark with stock internals (including injects and head studs) with out problem thus far with some good tunes and big chargers.

I have been running 500HP and 1000TQ for almost two years and 40K+ miles.

I have multiple passes down the 1/4 mile.......in the hundreds and at least 250 dyno pulls on load cells and non load cells.

I do not baby my truck, I will agree with Diesel tech and say that proper tuning is a very important part of making the motors live.

So far my own efi-live tuning has served me very well........:rockwoot:

100's upon 100's of 1/4 mile passes during two packed seasons of racing. Most of which are mid/low 12 sec. passes with some 11 sec. passes thrown in. Still running well. Stock everything. 45-50 pounds of boost. Daily driven.

Not sure on the HP but think it must be in the 600hp range.

Rob

Don't you change the program to lower power output when not racing? Like I said there is no hard fast number but useing the power wisely helps alot when it comes to expeceted life of the parts.

I've been above 600 rwhp for the last two seasons and above 500 rwhp for the previous two seasons before that. The truck has over 200 hooks and over 200 passes at the drag strip with the stock rods.

:poke: Is this a pissing contest?

The "Safety Margin" is declaired @ 450 HP on # 2 Diesel......It is the LOWEST point at which a rod could break. I think we have all seen Wades 800+HP, Tomac's 600+, Brandon's 700+, Tony's 500+, Nathon's 550+, Kennedy's 500+ and Bucks stooopid power on stock rods. It's how you feed it that keeps the engine/rods alive. Keep a stock motor @ 450 HP for 100k miles pull'n, racing and pulling heavy trailers and then tell me 500, 600 or 700 is no problem.:stab:
