So....500hp...

I made 548hp with only exhaust, cai, and efi live on my 06 dmax. Wish this dodge of mine was that easy.

498hp/877tq on rob's max effort tune with stock turbo, intake and exhaust mods, ad2 165 and gmax5 and ml converter.

500 Hp has been made many times over in a stock LB7, it was done long before most of these guys tuning with EFI live were even around, as a matter of fact long before EFI Live had anything for a duramax. What matters is how long do these engines last at 500 RwHp and the answer to that is very few, last very long at this level. If you make it but only use it once in awhile versus a guy who runs it daily at the higher power levels. My trucks got over 110K on it and makes the numbers too but I keep it turned down most of the time as I know I'm playing with fire at that level.

So to recommend that anyone try and make 500 HP on a stock duramax is only going to get a lot of broken engines and that is just what it has done. Why do you think that GM has gone to the level of changes they have to stop people from pushing the power up? If they had no warranty failures they would not worry about it but they have many many failures that people are trying to get them to cover and it cost them big time! So now with 10 years of production the amount of broken engines from pushing the power up speaks for itself. If you want a stock engine to live 400 Hp is a pretty safe number if done correctly. 450 on a LBZ or later engine.

I've been running nicks 500rwhp (250+hp over stock tune) since 2009 and the only thing that hated me was the tranny once it was built not a problem since. Now granted I dont run my LB7 hard drive like a grandpa and run diesel kleen in every tank of fuel. Seems to have lasted fine at this level for me and to add truck has 230k on it and hasn't given a lick of trouble yet.

You can make any numbers you want if you find the right dyno.

05smoker I beg to differ with you engine failure has alot to do with having improper tuning. 200k+ is alot of miles now granted if you have the proper tuning there is no possilbe way your going to blow HG unless you just flogg it all the time and your HG's are on there last leg other wise properly torqued studs and good gaskets with proper tuning will not blow HG's its been proven many times. Now feel free to correct me but it has been and continues to be done by many people.

It's not that difficult, if you use a good tuner. If you use a TTS tune it won't last long for sure. I had an TTS extreme and bent all the rods. Use a good EFI tuner and it should last a long time. Will need to modify the trans however.

We are not talking properly torqued studs and good gaskets. We are talking a high mileage lb7.

Before you beg to differ with someone, you might want to try reading the thread so you dont look like an a$$.

I don't see 500hp as imminent failure over 200k. Can you possibly push a weak gasket over the edge....... Certainly.

Let's face it there are more than a few around running 500hp on lb7 trucks. I have several buddies running 500 with 200+k on their trucks.

I put around 60-80 passes on my 220k lb7 this summer with 500+hp tuning and it's my daily driver.

It was said that they will go before the motor, thats all, not your going to blow an hg as soon as you hit 200k, or 500hp.
