But both should have a plug for the speed sensor on the tailshaft right? This tranny doesent have one.

That's because that tranny was built for a 99 and the plug ins are inthe rear end on a 99 the 96 has it on the tail housing. This is the problem guaranteed. Just use gps

in the 94-95 trucks the vss is on the t-case (241DHD) attached to the 47RH 96-98.5 the trucks came with a 47RE (electronic trans) and the vss is on the tail housing of the trans itself not the tcase. up until 98 you would have the 241 DHD. after 98.5 you still had the 47RE but then you could get the 241 DLD t-case. hope this helps.
