I went to my local shop today and ordered the following for my 2001 4x4:

1) Goerand transmission and torque converter w/ billet flex plate and input shaft
2) Edge Juice w/ attitude
3) 4" exhaust, downpipe and tailpipe, no muffler

Total came in just under $6200. I already wrote the check so tell me how bad I got ripped. I am a newb when it comes to diesels, so what's next? I scored an HX-35 a few weeks back, otherwise the truck is stock. I am thinking an Airdog and a set of injectors, or should I leave it alone since it is a daily driver 5 months out of the year and I don't want fuel mileage below 15MPG. I geuss what I'm asking is do injectors hurt fuel mileage?

whats the break down in pricing?

an airdog is only going to help your mileage, so i'd deffinatly do that.

what shop did you deal with if i may ask? Also might want to get some gauges or at least fuel pressure for sure. looks like your off to a good start though. I went through 3 lift pumps on mine before my fass pump. Now that you cut the first check, the spending just goes easier.:hehe:

Depends on injectors, you can actually pick up mileage with them. A fuel system upgrade is a must if you are getting the juice.

That's a pretty sweet deal actually. I'm betting the tranny is around $5k, juice is probably $6-700, exhaust is $350+.

A set of bosch 275 injectors usually help mileage about 1mpg and can be picked up brand new for about $300-400. They make a nice 40hp gain and run clean and cool. They are a great injector if your not wanting to go crazy with power.

A FASS or airdog system will help keep your injection pump happy and help your engine run better. They supply consistent pressure and remove any air from your fuel and filter better than factory so your engine gets a better quality of fuel.

That is the beauty of the attitude!

My right foot and tire size have been the largest demise of my fuel mileage. Like others have said, a good pair of sticks with a little increase in power and helping out the rest of the fuel system will only help you.

I left the reciept at home, it was something like this:

Tranny and converter: $3600
Flex plate: $450
Input shaft: $650
Edge juice w/attitude: $650
4" aluminized exhaust that they get mandrel bent locally $350
And I guess according to my math $500 tax and shipping?

I went to Apple Hill 4x4. They are a local dealer so I don't have to worry about core charge. Also they said they never have any trouble talking to Goerand about warranty work. I originally only wanted a billet flex plate. After I left their shop they called me and said they talked to Goerand on the phone and he has seen an increase in broken input shafts with billet flex plates, and he highly recomends billet inputs with billet flex plates.

How about some specific recomendations on injectors?
I am thinking an Airdog 150 would be large enough?

An air dog or fass 150 would be more than enough. You could actually use a fass 95 or air dog 100 and be perfectly fine. I know several trucks north of 600hp using a fass 95 and they don't have any problems with fuel starvation. Granted these are VP trucks. Common rails and p-pumps are a different animal. Not to mention that if your not going crazy large on injectors you won't need a really big fuel system. If your not wanting to look in to a new aftermarket turbo or go crazy on power, then any injector around 40-90hp would be just fine.

get a 95gph lift pump they support up to 500 hp or more and i get better fuel milage with my 100hp injectors

damn you bet me to it lol

When you say 100hp injectors, what does that mean? I am a car guy. Car injectors are rated universally by all manufacturers in lbs/hr. 19, 24, 30, 39, 42, 60, 75, etc. So is a 100hp injector close in size to the Bosch 275 BigBlDodge recommended? What brand of injector makes 100hp? I truly am not being sarcastic, I have no clue.

there suppose to get 100 more hp as in how there rated i am not sure someone will chime in and know

I personally would go with some edge jammer2 injectors. Depending on the shop you might be able to buy just the nozzle for the injectors and have the shop install the nozzles on the injectors and make sure the pop off is set right. I would recommed a FASS 150. I have had one for over 3 years and never a problem with it what so ever. It is a real nice unit and easy to install.

Everyone seems to have a different way to rate injectors. If i am corret they rate the inejctors for over stock hp. So 100hp injectors will net you 100hp over the stock engine output. Only if you have the supporting mods to allow for that kind of fuel flow.

On a stock setup truck i would not go over 100hp. The jammer2's will be around 90hp. They run real good and if you do the nozzles are probly the cheapest injector set up you can get. I have ran both jammer2's, jammer4's and several other injector set ups and the the jammers seem to be the cheapest and best mileage.

With the amount of fuel you already have (stock injectors and a edge juice), the hx35 will already get a little toasty. If you go much bigger with the injectors, start thinking about more air (bigger turbo).

Well believe it or not this is what I was kind of hoping to hear. I am not looking to lay down big numbers or race the 1/4 mile, that is what my cars are for. I just want my old beater to be able to run with the newer more powerful trucks out there today without harming the engine. On the flipside though, IF i could get a considerable increase in power and MPG for a couple hundred bucks I would do it. I think I will look into a FASS or Airdog 95-100 and call it a day. I still have the stock airbox/filter configuration. Is there much to be improved on there? Just drop in a K&N panel or what?

You can do a lot better on the airbox, I've started looking real hard at the S&B dry filters as a replacement for my oil/guaze AFE type just because they are easier to keep clean. For the injector, I would go with a set of the RV 275's, with a box and mild turbo upgrade the combo should put you pretty close to 400HP, run cool, AND get good mileage.

Three things I can tell you to look into though, gauges, mainly trans, EGT, and boost. Fuel system such as the Fass or Airdog, both are good units and generally trouble free enough you can use a hobbs switch and warning light in lieu of a fuel pressure gauge. And last but not least, some discretion, adding this much power AND a tight tranny will be rather rough on the rear tires...trust me :D

Jammer injectors do seem to help with mileage, at least they did with mine over the original 160k injectors.
