The truck is a 97. Currently have 5x.018s, 024s ,rack plug and 4ks. The head has been ported and polished and runs hamilton valvetain. The charger is a s469/74/.9. The exaust housing has had a tad bit of work done. It sits on the stock ported manifold and a t3/t4 adapter. The issue i am having is spool. I would like to get it to have boost below 1800-2100.
I need suggestions/ help these are the ideas i have came up with so far. If you have any its greatly appreciated.

Timing is 21.5 maybe Bump it up?

valve lash is factory spec. want to tighten exaust but not sure to what spec. imput?

it will be getting a better blowing intake to filter. 5 inch instead of 4.

would i get anything noticable out of a intercooler and better charge pipes.

Possible a better intake horn/plate?

Thanks for your time. I have searched and searched and the afc is getting me nowhere. I am in need of help

It would yes and i have thought about it. I just have not seen sound results from it.

Have not read much about them but the concept seems good.

They are cheap compared to other things you mentioned like an intercooler.

Try it out and let us know ha.

I have been thinking about one to run a 472 on my 03 but CR's are different beasts.

A cam would help out, I think an intercooler would slightly hurt spool time because it's more are to "fill". I went from and air to air to an air to water and spool is faster.

I was told that the spool valve was for divided housings only. There isnt much to do to be able to get the rpm below that because of the size of the turbo. Porting and polishing helps some along with timing. My ppump 24v with hamilton cam and t4 manifold with a 66 mm doesnt like anything under 1900 rpm's and its still a tad laggy and hot. With a manual trans it might be able to run it better but with the auto its harder

Try gasket matching the manifold and turbo along with a good port and polish job. It will help you out some more but not by a large amount. You also gotta take into consideration your altitude it plays a big role in what size turbo you can run. Mine originally had a s472 on it when i brought it up from texas. The difference of a 1000 ft made a huge difference in spool up with that turbo.

Air to water is not to pratical for DD. I also thought about a cam, i want to run a 188. I might have to run a fly cut piston though. My head has been decked.

My housing is divided. I am curious to see if anyone has had luck with the spool flange.

im positive a 188 have to fly cut i run a 180 made me spoll 1-200 rpms quicker but i have a really small charger

cam is your best bet, or a smaller turbo, if nothing less a smaller housing..

Nick on here has a thread about that spool flange look in the comp section and its there a multi page write up about it.

you dont need fly cuts to run a hamilton 188/220 cam if your head or block hasnt been decked.

you should be able to degree that cam to work if you have decked your head or block

some *nx* would help you spool that turbo

I have watched that write up. At the moment I am not overly impressed, I am still waiting on results and drive pressure readings. I would need to modify my charge piping to run the spool flange, along with a new manifold.
I will spray the truck but not in DD to get on a highway or around town better. Will most likely put a 188 in this spring. Anyone else have ideas?

I will be putting a similar combo on the road when i get home in two weeks.
S469. benched 215 pump. 024 dvs. p&p head. 188/220 cam. 5x.017s.

Im hoping the cam will bring it to life closer to 1500.

Not gonna happen, maybe 1900 full spool.

a smaller turbo or housing would be the best and easiest solution

I am not looking for full spool as much as cruising speed boost if I hit the go pedal it goes. I have thought about a smaller turbo bit I don't think a 66 would spool that much better
