stick in a dmax

Search autotrader, a few of them come up on there when you choose that option. And they were 6 speeds.

Yeah, the Allison was standard. I've only seen one in person with a 5 speed

FYI. '01-early '06 (LLY engine) Duramax's were available with either a 5 speed Allison or 6 speed Manual. All '06 and up Duramax's (with the LBZ engine) have the Allison 6 speed. No Duramax was ever offered with a 5 speed manual........

so from reading that i need to find an aftermarket bellhousing from a 96 or newer gm which would bolt up to my motor and i could slide the dodge nv4500 right behind it.

the other question i would have is a clutch. if i put the the 10 spline 1 3/8 input shaft in the dodge nv4500 i should have several options as long as the bellhousing i get is deep enough to accept a triple disc?

There in lies the problem as I understand it. A double disc will fit in a GM bell (have personally seen that setup behind a DMax with my own two eyes) but a apparently a triple won't (think it was Chris Watson - SuperSonic that said that).

special order?

I'm sure plenty were ordered as such but no, that wasn't necessarily a special order item. There are a few of them for sale on eBay and other boards right now.

Sorry, I meant a manual in general. Didn't look close enough to see if it was 5 or 6 gears.

talked to south bend this morning, with my set up i should be fine with a dual disk. i'm not going to try and run an outrageous fast final drive. Fummins around here runs a DD and he has the most HP of anyone in our class i would say.

duramax to a 96 + GM bell to a dodge nv4500 with 10 spline 1 3/8 input, dodge throw out bearing, fork and slave cylinder. GM pedal, and master cylinder. and a duramax DD south bend clutch. just have to fab a line from GM master to Dodge slave, and i'll prolly run a 241 trans case.

cool deal man! I hope it works out good for you!!

So, did Peter verify that a triple will or will not fit in a GM bell?

Have you considered the 271 xcase from a 3rd gen dodge behind the nv4500 instead of the 241? Just be sure and get the good 241, the DHD. Not the DLD. The dodges eat the DLD's like candy in pulling trucks.

sorry i hijacked your thread duramaxsandwich, i was curious about the standard in a duramax thing, cuz ive maybe seen one in my searches for one LOL.. good luck with the conversion!

I would do the 271 over the 241 if you can. Alot stronger and one less thing to worry about.

I strongly reccomend you look into a triple. I blew thru my dual in short order. With the RPM we have a the fact that you need to pull in direct to keep the trans alive your going to need a final ratio in the 11 to 13 area. I know Peter likes to be around 13- 15 but that is not really feasible with a Dmax IMHO

Close. 06 could be had with a ZF6. The engine was detuned and called a LLY but it was actually an LBZ. It uses a Bosch ECM and everything else that makes it an LBZ. The only difference is the programming in the ECM. To me 06 is the holy grail of ZF6 Dmaxs for competition use. Best overall stock package.

Exactly, he is saying to run the lower final like 13-15 to keep the clutch alive when really he should be selling a triple disc clutch to hold the final drive that is required to compete. JMO

From my ubderstanding a Tripple will fit in the bell housing of a ZF and wont fit in an NV housing. Now a 96 GM beel housing.....thats another story!

wade mcginnis at thoroughbred diesel has a SBC tripple disk in his 03 dmax

peter wasn't who i talked to at south bend, i would like to find a bell that would fit a triple if nothing else so i can go to one if needed.

i found a company online out in CA called High Impact that does alot of nv4500 conversions, i talked to them about what my needs and questions about it are and we are trying to get the list of parts figured out and might be going with a GM nv4500 to fit my set up better, but i still have a lot of research yet to do. and until we get all this corn out i am not going to have any time to work on it anyway, lol

Mr. Davis uses a 6-speed talk to him im sure he has a load of info. (OSUduramax)

i found a company out in CA called High Impact that does a lot of nv4500 swaps. i have been talking to the owner about doing this swap for the past couple weeks. he also recommended the triple.

A local guy and freind of ours can a NV4500 behind his D-Max in his 80's model crew cab. It was a fun truck and ran good. Keep us posted.

seen one on the lot here in Jackson Michigan and have seen one forsale in the Ann Arbor area with a stick. Very few out there I would say.
