Yeah, the Allison was standard. I've only seen one in person with a 5 speed
so from reading that i need to find an aftermarket bellhousing from a 96 or newer gm which would bolt up to my motor and i could slide the dodge nv4500 right behind it.
the other question i would have is a clutch. if i put the the 10 spline 1 3/8 input shaft in the dodge nv4500 i should have several options as long as the bellhousing i get is deep enough to accept a triple disc?
special order?
FYI. '01-early '06 (LLY engine) Duramax's were available with either a 5 speed Allison or 6 speed Manual. All '06 and up Duramax's (with the LBZ engine) have the Allison 6 speed. No Duramax was ever offered with a 5 speed manual........
There in lies the problem as I understand it. A double disc will fit in a GM bell (have personally seen that setup behind a DMax with my own two eyes) but a apparently a triple won't (think it was Chris Watson - SuperSonic that said that).
talked to south bend this morning, with my set up i should be fine with a dual disk. i'm not going to try and run an outrageous fast final drive. Fummins around here runs a DD and he has the most HP of anyone in our class i would say.
duramax to a 96 + GM bell to a dodge nv4500 with 10 spline 1 3/8 input, dodge throw out bearing, fork and slave cylinder. GM pedal, and master cylinder. and a duramax DD south bend clutch. just have to fab a line from GM master to Dodge slave, and i'll prolly run a 241 trans case.

I strongly reccomend you look into a triple. I blew thru my dual in short order. With the RPM we have a the fact that you need to pull in direct to keep the trans alive your going to need a final ratio in the 11 to 13 area. I know Peter likes to be around 13- 15 but that is not really feasible with a Dmax IMHO
Exactly, he is saying to run the lower final like 13-15 to keep the clutch alive when really he should be selling a triple disc clutch to hold the final drive that is required to compete. JMO
You have been hanging around wiltse to much. The 2.8 class will be not how far you pull but how many different trucks did it take to make one.oke:
cool deal man! I hope it works out good for you!!
So, did Peter verify that a triple will or will not fit in a GM bell?
Have you considered the 271 xcase from a 3rd gen dodge behind the nv4500 instead of the 241? Just be sure and get the good 241, the DHD. Not the DLD. The dodges eat the DLD's like candy in pulling trucks.
