My tailpipe is rotted & I will be replacing it. I noticed that my muffler is rotting away as well, but the rest of the exhaust is in great shape. I have a brand new muffler [straight thru design] that I was gonna throw on, but now I'm thinking straight pipe. I can't remember ever hearing a 64/71/14 with straight exhaust....Do they sound good? Annoying?

They sound awesome! Great exhaust note when the turbo begins to lite and at wot.

it wasn't with my 62/71, but with my stack it's awful on the interstate!

what are you running for exhaust now? the compressor won't make any diff in exhaust sound... annoyance from drone totally depends on your ears...

I'm very sensitive to it

Sounds like any other single turbo straight piped. I'd throw the muffler on it. I'm much happier with my hushpowered 5" than straight piped 4".

I'm running the Summit racing 4" kit [flow thru muffler]. I have a brand new muffler sitting here [same as mine] that was never installed. I really like how my brothers truck sounds with a straight pipe running stock charger. A friend of mine has a straight pipe with 62/65/14 & his sounds terrible...lots of crackling at wot. I figured it was the charger changing the tone?

you probably won't notice a huge diff in resonance from the glasspack that comes w/ the Summit system...

you WILL notice a huge difference in the amount of sexy turbine sound that comes from the tailpipe when you ditch that packed muffler

the turbo makes a big diff in how a straight piped system sounds... you'll like the 71 hot side

Thanks Forrest, I'm gonna try straight pipe.:Cheer:

you don't do long drives on the interstate?

rarely, but i drove to Tn a couple of weeks ago, and I was about to throw the stack in the ditch! I am goin back to underbed, but my tailpipe is about a hour and half away. so I got to go get it! its not bad around town though!

you can always put a muffler on it :)

I'm running a 62/71 on my '06... I've run it on my last few trucks.

I've tried just about every muffler style you can think of... tons of pipe sizes, stack configurations, etc.

I'm currently straight piped, but I've got a Corsa muffler sitting in the closet ready to be installed before my road trip this summer.

if I keep the speed above 80mph, the resonance is no biggie LOL

just driving around, it's no problem (I've got a lot of sound deadener in the truck) but after about 6hrs in the truck, it gets annoying. I like mufflers that cut the resonance while still keeping as much turbine sound as possible

Yeah the 71 turbine sounds great! Yes it was LOUD, especially with my single six inch stack! With a muffled five inch system it was not bad.

The 71 sounds crazy good on the 2nd gens with a 4 inch system. Put the straight threw muffler on. At idle and light throttle you get that "tweeter" sound that turns everyone's head. You won't be able to hear it in the truck, so let someone else drive it around the block while you listen.

J.D.

P.S.- When I had my '01 with the 64/13/71 and 4" exhaust, you wouldn't believe how many people asked how to make their trucks sound like that.

I have a Super B special with straight 5 inch all the way out the back! Alot quieter than my 4 inch and doesnt drone in the cab. Has a great sound at WOT!

OK I have a newbi question..... What the heck are you all talking about when you say 64/13/71 or the other numbers????

Thanks

IMHO, I would start out with it straight and add a good muffler if you dont like it. Give it a couple of weeks to see if you like it.

With how PA has been cracking the whips on diesel pick-up exhausts I would put the muffler on and live it it.Its certainly alot cheaper than the slip of yellow paper you sign on the bottom and add a check to the State.

I have a 66/71/14 with a 5inch system and a short 5inch straight thru muffler. Its just enough to mellow the sounds and allow you to hear the constant whine of the charger from under the hood.Lloyd is always complaining about the noise on my cell from the turbo he sold me,go figure..LOL...The truck has a nice mellow tone and its nice to run down the stereo a bit and ride......Andy

P.S.-I agree with Forrest also...Ouch that friggin hurt...."Say NO To Stacks"!
