So, I'm gonna need a new clutch soon..........
The whole thing that led up to me hooking to a sled last night was me mentioning to my dad that if I wasn't afraid of killing my clutch, I'd try it. He told me to hook and if I messed up the clutch he'd buy me a new one. (I love my daddy! :D )
So, yeah, after witnessing how much smoke was BOILING off my clutch while I was pulling he's been shopping online for clutches today. I told him that I was pretty sure that with my truck, to go to a dual disc I would have to change the input shaft. (I could be wrong?) He's thinks he's found 2 companies that sell dual discs that don't require changing the input shaft.

I need some really good technical info to take to him and say here's the deal. Or else he's gonna order the cheapest **** he can find online and I won't be any better off than I am now with a slightly abused stock clutch........

Truck is a 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton reg cab 5 speed.

iirc theres hasliey, mac, and south bend clutch

question is how much power you want end up throwing at it?

Recommended to swap inputs while you have it out...But I guess malibu is right, depends on how much power.

i really like my valair 3850, great luck with it so far. and i too recomend the upgraded input shaft, it is just a little extra insurance

I'd go with Valair again...

IIRC They make a DD that uses the stock shaft. And if you aren't planning on big power it should be fine with the stock one.

SBC has held the power and is proven. They make one for the smaller input but that stock input has broke on stock trucks so I would upgrade it and be done with it.

I know it cost's more but you need the input upgrade.
Then, go with a SBC or Valair DD. I run South Bend's and love them.
If you're not going to hook more than 4-5 times a year I'd get the sprung hub 3600.

I would not go cheap with a clutch for sled pulling i would go with the input shaft and 3850 or a 4200. my wife can drive my IRON GIANT so don't worry about going with a heaver plate loud good luck

SBC DD, big input, SFI certified, then you have no more worries, and move on to more expensive parts, behind the clutch!!

Then, you can hold it to 5000 rpm, and slip the clutch into it,, its a great rush.

Get it in before Sept 6+th.

I run nothing buy Southbend ... and recommend nothing but Southbend. Peter is a fantasic guy to deal with, and his products have been proven time after time. As far as the imput shaft goes ... upgrade it ... its worth it

I'm not planning on sled pulling all the time......... just might hook everynow and then.
I'm planning on around 600hp when I get done. It's gonna be a long road but that's where I want to end up.

Really simple here Anna, call South Bend, talk to Peter, do what he says. I did two of the three the first time around, a year later the tranny was back out and another clutch was going in :bang

Another option right now before any $$ is sunk in the clutch and tranny is an auto swap, if you plan to drag race the truck, you'll want that anyway so swapping in a 47RH (or RE, I just say the RH for ease of wiring etc. no PCM swap unless you just want to) right now wouldn't be to terribly more expensive than upgrading the input and purchasing a DD.

No the truck is going to stay manual. It's mainly my daily driver and to pull my full on race toy to the track.
