The good the bad and the ugly...

Thanks guys for the help! One last question, what about just a programmer and leave the exhaust stock or is that a no no?

I tried that for awhile, the results were very disappointing. Only about a 1 to 2 mpg increase. And it went in to regen way more often

So if a 100hp tune won't do a whole lot for these trucks, what will whithout beating the hell out of the driveline and causing high EGT's? I guess I should mention I will at times pull trailers on long hauls, shouldn't ever get higher than 5-6000lbs though...

Depending on the tuner you get Spartan, Sct, and H&S to name a few. Most I've see have a tow tune or can get a tow tune.

ive loaded mine with anything from tractors, to hay, horse trailers, to a small lawn mower they can pull it all just fine.
i did forget to turn mine down when i took dads new tractor back to him, i wanted to try it out. It pulled it just fine, i noramlly turn it down to the towing tune for anythign that heavy

I love my 6.4 Tuned it with a H&S minimax and just did the doc/dpf delete (for now) Tell ya what... They are animals with the tune. The best part of deleting though, is you dont have to worry about the truck going into reign cycle... Which is a swear word to us 6.4 owners haha. Get one! youll love it!

With Spartan, that would be the 210hp tune. Lots of guys tow heavy with it.

Coming from having two duramaxs and a common rail cummins that made 588, I bought a 6.4 after hearing all they are about. I'm very happy with my choice. Couldn't ask for much more. With the five inch exhaust and the intake the temps stay down and it flat out hauls. Jump the boat to a 6.4, you'll love it
