Tranny Blankets

With ITPA its not that insurance says, its that were taking the precautions so we don't lose our insurance. All it takes is one incident and our insurance will drop us.

this is the same with all insurance scams i mean companies. I think we all know that nobody wants people to get hurt.. But i think in this case a bellhousing blanket is sufficiant enough. Whats next, center chunk blankets? Transfercase? On our trucks how is the tranny more justified than the motor in front of it? Street trucks have more safety equip than the ntpa requires.. Hell my neighbors four blown alchohol hemi's dont have half the safety equipment that these street trucks require.

Not saying, im just saying

Tim

I guess I'm with the other guys on the question of what happend to prove that this would happen? I mean im all for bein safe but dang boys, a full blanket? Like someone else said just blanket the whole truck while were at it. I understand safety but somthing could always happen no matter how "safe" you are. After all your talkin about trucks between 7 and 1,000 horse pulling a sled of however much weight, and doing that "safe" can have a few differnt meanings. Either way it wont matter we'll all have to go spend another 6-800

Wonder how much a full motor blanket will runLOL I am all for safety but this is really getting weird, must be them dang g56's......

the good thing is that all you guys will be selling the used belhousing blankets cheap next year..lol

Allison blankets are $450 from Tony B. They are sfi and cover the whole trans. Pretty sure the are Deist.

Re

I am lost here, Did something happen that is resulting in this change? In NADM you can run a Mod truck with just a clutch can is there something different going on in Indiana that makes trucks less safe?

If you have an SFI certified clutch can then you would not need a blanket with ITPA. As to the question of what has happened to cause it, nothing YET. ITPA has had this rule on the books all along. We are just enforcing it for all classes this year. Why, well while insurance does not normally specify what rules an association has to have, they do look at the rules that are in place to determine how much risk they have have in providing coverage. Then they determine the price they will charge. So, the safer we can make our trucks the less liability the insurance company has and the lower our rates are. And as has been said above most insurance company's will drop you after one major incident or raise your rates to the point that no one can afford them.
Also Ken, I have personally talked with insurance companies that did have mandatory requirements when we were looking at putting on a pull. In the liability world, the cost of a blanket is pocket change compared to the cost of a settlement in a lawsuit.

So just to clarify I can run my manual trans with just a SFI Clutch and Bellhousing blanket with ITPA. There is no need to have a trans blanket on a manual trans.

Yes. Must be sfi clutch and bell housing blanket. Auto's must at least have a bell housing blanket this year.

I sent a template to Stroud for a ZF5. They sent me a blanket that was close and had me mark out all the holes and specify length on the straps for the bellhousing bolts. 4 times shipping it back and fourth I have a bell housing blanket for a 5 speed Ford. Total cost $500. That was a pain in the ass. If I knew that RCI was a close as it was, I would have just taken them a tranny and let them build one. The Stroud we got for our Dodge with an NV5600 was a full length blanket, and it was only $350.

What I don't get out of this mess is why? I've seen way more pistons on the ground than any trany part. I feel a SFI bell housing blanket and SFI fly wheel are enough. What's next SFI crank shaft and a diaper? Or is this a way to limit participation?

Does anyone know where i can get a blanket for a ZF6? I've searched the internet but havent found a model specific blanket. Thanks Jon

Bartlett, good luck man. Most companys only have blankets for the Dodge trucks. Like I said, I had to put in some time just to get Stroud to make me a blanket for my ZF5. It's a pain, but it can be done. Having a mock tranny helped me out alot. I searched like you for a while with no luck. Finally I just called and told them what I wanted, and asked what they needed from me to get it done and went from there.

Diest has one for any ford zf or 4r100 and 5r100 its just a bell housing blanket

Thanks guy's. Would a universal blanket work? I'm not sure a universal blanket would fasten to the block though any ideas

i had to run 2 universals to make it work, the diest was 73 inches x 10 inches
