transfer case exploded !

get yourself a 271 and swap it in there you can normally pick one up used for $650-800

Just be glad that the chain did not break. I've heard of the chain breaking at regular highway speeds and it causing the truck to be totaled. Any way that is some pretty cool carnage.

I've seen busted t-cases before but yours takes the cake. Guess I need to check the fluid level in mine and change it.

Doesnt look like you ran it out of fluid. If you had it would be a red burnt up mess and yours looks clean. You can do a rebuild on them fairly cheap gets expensive if you need a new case or gears.

good job chris!!!!!! so were you at least beating the little car you were racing when this happened?

Saw those pictures and promptly ordered a new used rear driveshaft so I can swap in the DHD I have laying in the floor. My DLD has been leaking for about 2 years and I cant seem to stop it up no matter what seal I put in or what I use to seal the case halves together.

Glad i can help you guys out........:hehe:

it had a bad vibration right before it let go

I would check your driveshaft and ujoints for being out of balance.

All U joints are being replaced and shaft will be balanced for sure

Not sure if anybody noticed but it looks like something is missing in the pics, sucks, hope the guy in the car seen your point after all that!!!

Damn man, thats awesome! I would deff get that drive shaft checked out and balanced. FYI, I had the drive shaft on my camaro balanced at a local off road shop. HE got that shaft within a half a thou at 8800 rpm. Its so smooth now...

Stupid question, the transfer case does turn when the truck is in 2wd? Thats a lotta excessive drag..

Yes it turns all the time what engages power to the front end is a clutch the slides back and forth giving power to the chain otherwise it free spins with the front driveshaft.

Locking Hubs on front stop that spinning. But who wants to get out of their truck?

I guess I would since it'd save T-Case and Front axle a few miles of wear. $.02

I would do it if it were not so expensive!!!!!!!! Diesel Power did an article a while back on putting dynatrac hubs on a 6.7 and gained over 1 mile to the gallon I wanna say..
