transfer case exploded !

I would do it if it were not so expensive!!!!!!!! Diesel Power did an article a while back on putting dynatrac hubs on a 6.7 and gained over 1 mile to the gallon I wanna say..

it was closer to 3 mpg... interesting article
for only 800 bucks......

Yes it turns all the time what engages power to the front end is a clutch the slides back and forth giving power to the chain otherwise it free spins with the front driveshaft.

the chain doesn't spin all of the time.. the drive shaft is stationary while driving.. all of the motion is taken up by the spider gears if your CAD is still functional..

trucks '01.5 and newer, however, have no CAD, so the drive shaft and transfer case chain spin all the time, causing much excessive drag..

I put a locker in my truck, which disabled the spider gears so the front drive shaft spun full-time. I saw a 2mpg loss.. Also found out the 241 doesn't have the kind of front yoke support needed to be run full time...

Are you sh!ting me !! 4 transfer cases could've been used in 01 ? and i cant find the slip yoke on the shoulder of freeway either. Is the spine the same inside the transfer or is it different going into the yoke ?

wow....very nice carnage, i even saved a pic on my computer! One of my friends changed the rear ujoint in his 03 f150 and didn't get one cap pressed in far enough and only got 1/2 the snap ring in, i told him it wasn't in but he got the "it'll work" attitude(must be a ford thing?).. well later on that day he was driving, and said it made a hell of a vibration and then fluid everywhere, well that cap fell off, vibrated the hell out of dhaft, completely cracked the adapter fromt t case to tranny all the way around, and broke an bolt ear off the tranny..and yes, he felt like a real dumb a$$, so at least your was just kinda a freak deal

Well i did find the yoke in the weeds, its destroyed as well but atleast we could count the splines. Why would dodge put a LD in a cummins powered truck  so i need to find a HD:bang

I feel your pain brother, my truck came with the trailer tow package and camper prep package but not the snowplow package so I got a DLD as well. The yoke came for mine today so I will be swapping this afternoon. Your driveshaft will need to be shortened when going to a DHD. You will also need a slip yoke for a DHD, as they have a bigger output shaft. I'm not sure if the front shaft will slip out far enough to work with the longer length of the DHD, but if it doesn't, I'll get a spacer for the flange, I know someone used to make them for Jeeps, but they wouldnt be that hard to make if you know how to CNC.

Check your pinion yoke on the rear end and make sure the U-joint caps are not worn and letting the caps rotate inside the yoke. I had a joint go bad and it ground away at part of the yoke and the driveshaft fell to one side and started vibrating real bad. I think that may have made my leaks worse.

I'm having a new driveline made this week, all new joints (and maybe one for myself) and should be back on the road soon

Locking Hubs on front stop that spinning. But who wants to get out of their truck?

Me. PIC ME!!!! Too much $$$ though.

Wow. That baby let loose! Don't it suck that some jerkwad in a Prius can cost you a Grand? :(

t-case

All I can say is what the F@*K. Proving a point to this car this morning my T case decided to let lose at about 110. look for a heavy duty one ? Has to go behind a 6 speed.

My name is jeremy williams and live in pinedale, wy and I have a t-case for ur tk $450.00. u can call me 307-360-6996 or email me at staxdiesel@hotmail.com

that suckz bad man, mine did this to me also, my C-clip on the back of the shaft came off, causing the shaft to go foward & BOOM goes the T-case.

what does this 271 T-case come out of? and will they fit behind a 5 speed?

drivelines are made/too long/wrong size, finally got a slip yoke (wont fit line)..... 8 weeks without my truck :nail: they should've listened to me weeks ago BUT noooooooooooo mechanics know everything HE'S :banned:

I had my t case do the same thing at about 120. It dropped the driveshafts and exploded everything onto my buddies new truck behind me. Turns out the straps for the front shaft at the axle weren't completely tight and caused it to come out. Good luck gettin her fixed sucks for sure.

03-up Dodges and some Fords. If the 271 was behind a manual, it will fit behind a 5 speed, otherwise you have to swap inputs.

buddy i feel your pain. same thing happened to mine.. i had the dld and was running 80 and exploded. cracked case and all but mine was due to my cv joint being out when i didnt know it. i bought a new used one from interstate salvage in Joplin, MO. if i remember it was 650. could be wroing tho. no core charge. mine was a auto trans so it was hard finding. but i had to change the front yoke on mt d shaft and shorten it two inches. had a place in Joplin do that to. that only cost 30. 20 for the yoke and 10 for the cut weld and balance. but like i said i feel your pain...

thats sucks its happened to too many of us !
this is a parts list, all brand new stuff bought or made.....
DHD241 $1300, think that was too much, oh well....

six states drive line, bigger rear with huge saddle for huge slip yoke, rebuilt front, all new joints $550

new battery's, cause it sat in 100 degree heat for 3 months... $150

glad i had the A/C recharged since it was 72 today... $110

labor... $140

that equals TWINS :bang:kick::bang:kick::bang:kick::bang:kick::bang:kick:
