Your timing with that comment couldn't be better!
:hehe:, sorry I couldn't resist.
Glad you got it figured out, it should run much better now!
Well..
it RAN much better.. seems the timing has slipped YET AGAIN... ( I think....) ok so what am i doing wrong here..
I pinned the pump, unbolted it, barred motor to pin, TDC was wayyy off So i barred motor to TDC yet again, and reset it, Bolted everything back up..
I took a socket and banged on the nut so that it could set, I also cleaned the shaft with brake cleaner, and emery cloth as well.. COmbination of all of the above said.. and tried my hardest to make sure that there was no oil anywhere where there shouldnt be..i torqued this thing down to 200 ft lbs.. yes that is right...
drove truck, taking it to fourth gear, and accelerating a bit.. and poof.. white smoke, stutter, backfire, and stalled.. I could turn it on, but the only way it runs is throttle at 100 percent... killed the batteries in the process, and pulled over, 5 miles from home...
what am i missing here? is it possible that the nut and lock washer have gone bad?.. does this mean im not gonna be able to accelerate this truck hard at all anymore?
im stuck.. obviously it slipped at higher RPMS.. so i cannot see anything other than oil causing it to slip, or bad hardware..
please help...
thanks!
Sometimes the pump shaft will have a little wear and not seat the best. On those cases i use just a DROP of green locktite (Sleeve Locker) Doesnt take much... Tourq the nut to 25lbs and let it set for 20-30 mins. the progress to 195ftlbs. this will not slip if done correctally... it will take a torch to heat the gear up the next time you got to change the timing... so make sure its where you want it.... IF you plan on changing it alot id look into and adjustable timing gear. $.02
Hope this helps.
PS i have also seen the timing slip at the crank gear just FYI. Also if the washer is flat replace it.
thanks for the advise
its really appreciated.. just a shot in the dark here..
is there any possibility that the pump gear could have cracked? what are the odds?

If the timing keeps slipping why don't use an adjustable gear they use a key so it can't slip again I want one myself if i had your problems I could justify one and a front cover real easy just a thought!! Good luck
about fifty cans of brake cleaner..
Better change your oil, too.
I realize your "50" is sarcasm, but my point is to bring to mind how much have you used so far and how much will you use next time?
I don't know, it may all evaporate from the oil and not cause any problem.
Sarcasm on the fifty cans of brake cleaner.. but will vhange oil soon as its all set n done..thanks
The best stuff I have come across is LPS No-Flash NU. Its an electrical contact cleaner that will evaporate in about 5 seconds after a heavy dousing. Just a light spray on a warm surface will be gone in about 2 seconds. Its expensive, but it works great. I used that every time I do a timing job. I torque to 180. Never replaced the nut or washer yet. I've only had one that slipped, and thats when I put a different pump in and didn't clean the shaft before I set the gear. Knock on wood, I just re-set my timing today.
