Anyone getting away with running a 80 outback? I have SCS axles and spool outback. I am focused on building my engine now and plan to go to a rockwell in the 2011 season....... I know it is a big risk but I was curious if anyone else is doing it?

you can but not sure how long ring and pinon will last, you need to truss the housing and make a rear cover that loads the carrier bearings

Even completely built, the 3.0 guys are murdering those 80's. I imagine if you have even a half way competitive motor in unlimited single an 80 will never last. I assume its open drivetrain? Why not just sell the 80 parts and get a F106? I hear they are cheaper anyway?

Well ask ragged out. They are a 2.8 truck and they destroy 80's quite frequently.

Yes but then it requires a front gear change and set-up to match the rear gear.........

brandon dana 80 in the rear of MADDOG havent broke it all year set the pinion into the ring gear deep and a good set of gears, we dont even runa girdle on it, its gonna have a longer chassis and big rearend next year look out

Sweet what axles were you running? Who set the R&P up??

3.2 twins are killing 106's now. you better jump all the way to a 172.
unlim singles are a little easier on the drivetrain as they tend to snuff out at the end of the track.

I would think the snuffing out would be harder on parts as your starting to fall into your peak torque??

Not really you just loose power and loose it fast, the twins, will pull down and keep on pushing longer. An unlimited single will make more HP, but the twins can keep up with less hp cause they are making more torque.

Brad's truck was always a long bed just look like someone put dually fenders on it??

Build it once, not two or three times. If it is unlimited drivetrain run the 172 and get the drop box and reverser. Believe me it will be cheaper in the long run. Just be patient. It seems like a lot up front but you will save money and most importantly a lot of time in the end. Good to see guys moving up in the classes instead of just sticking in the lower levels. Good luck.
