I will be unlimited single.... Does the 172 have to be narrowed or will it work box stock width? Avail. gear sets also used???
Brandon

brandon dana 80 in the rear of MADDOG havent broke it all year set the pinion into the ring gear deep and a good set of gears, we dont even runa girdle on it, its gonna have a longer chassis and big rearend next year look out

WOW LOOK OUT:clap::blahblah1::umno:

you can but not sure how long ring and pinon will last, you need to truss the housing and make a rear cover that loads the carrier bearings

House- Remember hearing in the past about covers that load the carrier bearings but didn't have any luck searching for it...want to point me in the right direction or post a pic of how it works?

Get a hold of Mark at Greensburg Driveline. He had covers custom made.

As far as I remember one bad habit has always been a short bed.

So can these be used in their stock width or do they all have to be narrowed????

Gear sets were about the same as the 106s, but I did find that you can get the H172s with 4.88s. The lowest numerical ratios I have seen are 4.88, 5.3x, 5.8x, and 6.20. Would be nice if 5.13 or close to that was available.

I found a spec for the axle length, but no overall dimensions of the assembly.

A stock H172 is a heavy pig. I would think it needs to be narrowed and lightened up some to be useful. I have one that you can come measure if you like Brandon.

Just looking for how this actually works...not needing one right now as I don't have a truck currently that would need it. Anyone have pics...don't want to bug Greensburg just to find out how they are done

I would also love to see some pics of how you all are mounting these big rear ends and see some trussed OEM frames. I'm not haveing much luck at all finding such pics. around the internet gas nor diesel trucks. :(

Little help?

3.2 twins are killing 106's now. you better jump all the way to a 172.
unlim singles are a little easier on the drivetrain as they tend to snuff out at the end of the track.

Are those stock 106s or ones with SCS guts in them?

Do guys leave the 172s stock or no?

How are they running duals on the 106 or 172? What size of dual tires are the top running open driveline trucks running?

I have 285's on them but you could put 305 or 315 i suppose but they will all touch. My 285's touch but it wont hurt them

jeremy, are those 16x6? pr are they wider??? Seems some of the trucks are running 17" wheels that appear to be at least 8" wide. Their tires look like the treads are pretty flat. A couple in particular that I remember looking at TS was the Ridin Dirty duramax truck and Josh Mosley's truck. IIRC, both of their duals seemed to be wider than standard dually wheels. I'm pretty sure Josh's is.was still D80 but I'm thinking the Ridin Dirty truck has a big rearend under it?? I focused more on eyeball raping his Dodge D60 under the front than I did the rear. LOL
