I've been told to use tranny fluid to lubricate my vp44 pump is that ok? If u think about it tranny fluid makes stuff stick not lubricate.

Do you mean p7100 pump or vp pump? Let me know so I can either move it to the proper area for more "exposure":pop: or not.

Either way I doubt that tranny fluid is gonna help.

Yeah I meant to put it in the 24valve area. I usually use 2 cycle but some diesel mechanics in town tell me to run tranny fluid

tranny fluid will lubricate the system but it is also not ashless and not really designed to burn. However, 2cycle is ashless and designed to burn...I would ask that mechanic a few other questions about diesel engines and take note of his answers.

You yourself said the best reason not to run it. Its designed to not let stuff slip. Not what you want in a VP.

for the love of god, do not put ATF of anykind in your fuel, it was never meant to be burned, get the el cheapo 2 stroke oil from walmart, or if you have it locally, get some biodiesel, that is one of the best lubricants to use according to the HFRR testing that was done with ULSD, and lack of additives.

Agreed. Transmission fluid is a horrible idea for mixing in fuel. As everyone has said it is made for friction and not meant to burn. Also (not sure if anyone has tore into it more) but the o-rings and seals in the fuel system would probably get "attacked" by the ATF, IMO.

My great grandpa put atf in the filters when he drove a semi to clean the injectors up they were mechanical tho. My grandpa puts some in his tractors when they are not runin 100%. It helps trust me but if you fill a filter up it will run like **** but it cleans them up and once its out it will run fine.

Tranny fluid is full of friction modifiers. Think of it as microscopic sand, helps the clutch plates grip. Older injectors and pumps didn't have the clearances that modern systems do. The old timers liked it because it was like extrude-a-hone for any build up in the system. Got a old 6.9 or 7.3, go ahead, can't hurt. But if your so cheap that you can't spend a few more dollars to buy some Stanadyne, then just think what will come out of your a$$ when you get the bill for a new injector pump.

Yeah I've never put ATF in my fuel tank I was jus wanting to get some opinions. Thanks guys

I've ran new and used ATF in both VP44 and P7100 injection pump'd trucks, like others have said, it seems to be a good solvent-type cleaner but the 2 stroke oil seems to burn cleaner and make the engine quieter where-as ATF just cleans.

Think of it like this, when your hands are really greasy and dirty, the GoJo Orange pumice hand cleaner stuff works great because it has a little grit to help scrub. If you wash your hands once in a while, it works great and does no real damage, if you wash your hands 10 times a day, pretty soon your hands will be sore and raw.

Now if ATF causes excessive wear, I don't know, I just know that it works good to help clean and every once in a while I add a qt of new ATF or burn a gallon or two of used but filtered ATF once in a while.

I've been told by several mechanics once the ATF is mixed with diesel it begins to break down and become very slippery and lubes the injection pump along with the injectors

like I said above.....start asking them other questions to see what they really know. Just use the damn 2-stroke, ATF doesnt "break down" in diesel is mixes in.........use the cheap walmart 2stroke.....*bdh*

ATF for fuel......

I have used straight, used ATF as fuel for over 100k miles and have had NO issues with pump, injectors or anything else in a 2000 F350 with a 7.3. Ball bearing turbo, modded IDM, and DP tuner chip. Never run anything less than the 80 hp tune up to 140 hp tune. I run the used fluid thru a 5 micron filter set up and pump it into the tank. Thats it. Not saying its right, but it is what I do. FYI, the truck runs quieter on atf than diesel and I dont notice any power loss. I dont have to worry about fuel gelling ever. This truck gets beat. 10 ft. plow and a salter all year. Now that I said this it will probably grenade at the next snowfall. LOL

U also have a 7.3... Totally different pump that the 5.9 vp44 pumps...

I tryed ATF did nothing now use 2cyl oil and truck runs better and better fuel milage

Lets learn a little here then, why does every mechanic that i know when changing a diesel filter they fill the new one full with ATF and start the engine if ATF does not break down and burn? How does the engine run then? Im sticking with ATF cause it works fine for my truck and everyone elses truck i know.
