im thinking of putting a vgt on my truck and i saw somewhere in my searches on the web of a guy who used a window motor or something to control the exhaust brake function but i cant seem to find it again, he had a video and everything

basically it was a small motor that when activated a small rod extended form it a few inches (sorta like a shut off solenoid) that controlled a arm on a pivot point that would keep the vains from closing all the way but went the rod was extended the arm moved down making the veins close all the way

can anyone point me to where that guys post is at or know what kind of motor i should look for? i know there are tons of post on vgts and i have searched and searched and i cant find this set up or another like it

well i found the video on youtube finally but i know i read a write up by this guys somewhere saying what all he used, go to youtube and punch in HE351Ve VGT on 98 Cummins / EBrake, im not sure how to post up a link, its a 24v with yellow a valve cover and you have to watch it for a few seconds before you see his set up, any ideas what the little motor thing is in the video?

has vgt been beat to death on here? someone has to know what kind of motor that is or one that would function like it

I believe he used a motor for high idle on some kind if diesel engine. I Google vgt setups before I did mine and ran across his build. I've been trying to think of a way to make the brake work but no luck.

Dont use the simple boost open vanes method. you cant drive around with the vanes shut boosting 15psi on flat ground.

They think its great results. But havent realized how much efficiency can be gained by not having 15psi cruising - that compression of all that air is just wasted fuel. Trust me Ive tried it, drving along with the vanes open fully, then shutting them like most "drive open" setups, requires MORE throttle to keep speed. And turbo starts whistling, boost goes up. While if you just leave the vanes open you can come out of the throttle almost completely , cruising at 1-2psi if that, very little throttle pressure.

That can be adjusted by adjusting the waste gate. My truck used to make 10-15psi cruising with the stock turbo, now it makes 1-5 with this monster turbo and I lost 2mpg.

A wastegate wont affect anything until it opens unless its a leaking one! Hopefully not set to 10 psi.

There is no wastegate. They use waste gate actuators to control the veins on the vgt's so you can adjust the gate to open at a specific boost.

Unless your a dumbass and don't know how to tune things yeah it could run high boost cruzing but mine and probably a lot of other peoples setups dont. Unless you have one on your truck don't post because it seems to me you don't know what your talking about.

thanks for getting that video up gasoline sucks, his set up looks simple enough, i went and checked out my new vgt last night, someone that works at the dealer snagged it cause the vains were sticky so im getting for less than 100bux looks like its in really good shape, im going to pick it up next week and start messing with this

what are you guys using to control the veins? i was going to use drive pressure but then thought of using boost, i figured i could start with one and the switch to the other easy enough, i also thought of running the "air" line into the cab and hiding a pressure regulator of some short under the dash so i could adj from inside the cab

i never searched the 24v forums for this stuff thats why i couldnt find that post, i cant believe i didnt think of that, i knew he used a window something, thought it was the motor but it was the switch, thanks for that link

mines a 12v so fleece is out, did you see that video on youtube of the one with the spring? it looked simple enough just have to find the right spring

i looked at high idle motors and looks like that could work, just got to find the right one, maybe i will go hit the junk yard next week and see what i cant find

I have seen the video of the spring setup. I believe it's from the same guy, and that's what I'm going to try first. It's going on my girl friends 24v, so since I want it to be very easy for her to drive, Fleece might be the end result for it.

videos dont work??

X2 didn't work for me either
