Waste gate replacement?

Well for the past 2 days, I have had this annoying rattle/ticking coming out of the middle of my exhaust. Thought I dropped a valve and was a little worried. Also, was thinking injectors; since they are still the stock bodies with 100k+ on them and 2 days ago I put a CP3 that put some fuel finally. But every time I would rev it up, the rattle would come from the Twins.

So today, I finally took the 62/71/13 off the manifold for the 1st time. I have had slow spool up and a bad exhaust leak since I bought this turbo :bang . I did find out that the exhaust leak was in fact from the waste gate plate. So I took it apart to use some gasket sealant on it.

And I ended up finding the puck broken off. . So I would assume, this resolves the rattling/ticking from the middle of the exhaust. But now, how do I find a replacement? Also, there is a crack and a little chunk of metal missing. Nothing bad since it isn't going to the other side.

Where to find a replacement and get my truck running by Thursday? I need this thing running for the Redding event.
Thanks,

Joey

HTT will replace your puck, I have the same issue. Brandon at HTT told me it's about a day work once it gets there.

So, I have to send my housing to them? Or can they just send me the puck? Well, it sure did leave a good crack.

I should have went with a external gate and a 14 housing.

Also, is this a recall or just something I probably have to pay to replace? Because it seems that it cracked the housing as seen in the picture. There goes more money out of my pocket.

You have to send the housing to them. As far as the crack, I would think they SHOULD fix it, but HTT has been alittle shady about warranties.

If they dont replace the housing, the nice thing about the stainless is it can be ground out and heli-arc welded.

Call HTT in the morning. Someone mentioned them being able to send out a complete exhaust housing with the updated wastegate arm/puck fix. I assume you'd pay for the housing, then they'd credit you when you sent yours back. That is, if they have housings with the update in stock.

Well thank you. I really appreciate the help guys. I guess I will have Brown's Diesel send them the housing and get everything situated without spending a arm and leg. Or I will just go to the 12cm or 14cm housing. But heard they are shorter than the 13cm housing. Which means, I have to get a new hot pipe.

Yes this is what I have been told. And Joey it is a manufacturer issue so that is no cost to you, just paying shipping out to them and back.

That is good to hear. I would love for them to send me the housing and I pay for 3 day shipping. And then I send them my housing back. Thanks Brian and Jared. I will be contacting HTT early morning tomorrow. I can't believe this even happened with the puck. It basically took out everything, except the impeller, thank god.

If I were you, I'd pull the bottom turbo and inspect its turbine wheel. If any metal broke free when the pucks broke off, you will likely have a damaged turbine wheel. It's easy to check while you have the secondary turbo removed and it'll give you some peace of mind if you come up short on horsepower in the future.

Yeah, I will have to take the 480 out and also, go through it as well. Looks like I will be busy this week. Going through the turbo/s and also, getting everything back on time. As well as spend some $$$ looks like.

I talked to Jones @ HTT and they hooked me up. They are sending me a new exhaust housing for free of charge and also stated that this is a manufacture fault.

They said, I had the one of the 1st SS housings they started making and thought they replaced all of them. It has a old school Borg Warner waste gate on the turbo.

Now, I am hoping I get my housing asap. So I will give everyone feedback and let them know if it spools faster. I am hoping it does spool way faster.

Yeah I felt very good about their customer service and them standing behind their product. Now lets see when they get the housing and ship it to me. They said I should be able to have it by Thursday. And they won't get the housing until tomorrow.

Glad they're standing behind it.

Yup HTT is good to deal with- my waste gate puck was very loose- and they fixed it no problem-
Joey you did a real number on that one!!!!!!!!! You should spool like a sumbatch!!!!

NOTE- always check used turbos

I learned now, to never get used crap no more. It sure did crack that housing pretty bad. They said, I will be their 1st customer that has done this to a turbo. I told them, always a 1st for everything.

So Joel, when is that truck going to be done? Tuesday or when?
