If you like the way it runs in 2nd high with 4.10's, go to 4.56's if you wanna run 4th low. They are almost the exact final drive ratio. With 33's final drive ratio with 4.10's is 12.46 and 4.56's is 12.36.

ok thanks alot that's what i needed to know

Curious what combo and numbers that truck puts down. It was very clean when i seen it run.
I have no clue, he won't say, but I got a Crappy cell phone video of him at Westmoreland. He had to be going 35mph or better. He hit his brakes at 300ft, completely out of the fuel & went 354ft.

That would be a good setup, but you can only get 4.56's for the front Dana 60. The only thing close enough to that for the rear D-80 is a 4.63. Rods is running this same setup and hasn't had any problems that I know of yet. If your worried about the different ratio's working against each other and since its not that big of a jump in ratio's, you can allway run a smaller tire up front than the rear like a 31" up front and a 33" out back, or 33" up front and 35" in the rear. It won't be exactly the same, but it would put it a little closer.

4.56 & 4.63 is close enough not to be a problem. Actually a little advantage there with the front spinning just slightly faster than the back.

I have 33s, nv4500, 3.55 gears and after reading this thread still a little confused. would 4.56, 4.88, 5.13 be better? running in southern ohio mostly. ran this year in 3rd 4low. I want to run 4th 4low to save the trans. turbo is to big to run 2nd 4high falls off around 250 foot. Thanks for the help guys.

I would go 4.88's first choice, or the 4.56/4.63 setup. 5.13's would work if you can turn 4500rpm down the track and hold it there on the far end.

I would go 5.13. If you really dont have a ton of power than 33 will be fine. If you have the power to turn it than run a 35-36 STS.

With 4.88 I dont think the options are there like the 5.13. Its cheaper and easier to try different tires than gears. Just borrow different tires to see what works the best.$.02

To make things easier I probably should have asked for wheel speed instead of gear ratio. Gear ratio adds too many variables to the equation. GOT-Torque and I have discussed this quite a bit lately trying to help me decide on gears. Maybe someone from your area can comment on your types of pulling tracks. I am sure we pull in different conditions.

My truck will be a puller only so that may make a difference on what gears to choose. The main reason for gears for me is trying to keep the transmission and transfercase in the truck. I am getting 4.88s and plan on running 33s. That will put my ground speed between 28-33mph from 3750-4500rpm.
Your current setup (33s, 5spd, 3.55s, 3rd, 2.71 low) puts you at 23-28mph between 3750 and 4500. Your setup with 5.13s in 4th low puts you at 26-32mph in the same rpm range.

Not sure if that helps, but if you compare wheel speed to other trucks it gives you a better idea where they are at. And allows you to choose the tires, gears, etc. to get you there.
