2000 Jetta ALH build thread

I need the IC, the Piping, the OMI, the air intake..... I have everything else... lol :hehe:

LOL fair enough

What about the baby turbo :evil

No actually that turbo I got from you started making some horrible noises after just a few months, my local VW guy through a stock spare on, and some new sticks while he had it. Then he blew it up on the drive to my house with it :bang
So I ended up getting a awesome larger hybrid turbo for less than most of the well known VW places are asking for VNT 17/22's. Just sucks because now I wish I had bought a Jetta or a Wagon like I really wanted and I'm too far into this car to sell it and break even.

Damn mark.. Should of told me. I have another stock one here

So did my VW mechanic buddy.... then it blew up on the drive home....at that point as bad as I hated to spend the money I was tired of paying him to swap turbos. He obviously cut me a deal on the new one when he blew mine up testing it/having fun with the new mods. LOL

What kind of power are these little engines capable of before you have major failures? i.e. block, rod or crankshaft.

I'd love to build my CR to be a little power house, but I'm nervous about the bottom end, afraid of them being weak like the Dodge CRs. Plus is there anyone out there that makes performance parts for these engines? Ik Malone does tuning, but what about injectors, cams, pistons and rods?

Les at GDM is the man for common rail tdi cars. He has one over 400hp right now. I think the rod issues are gone. basically the cp3 is the limiting factor on those cars. I think he has a website up and running. he is located in PA so it would be closer to you.

im going to be around 230-240hp with my car once he tunes it. rod failures on the alh engine are around 250-260 so im trying to stay out of that area. Right now rods are the limiting factor and my cam. didnt wanna change it just yet. I have a second engine that is getting built hopefully shortly but its on the back burner.

You're saying ALH rods (stock) can take 230 whp???

I heard to stay under 170....hmm

Dual CP3.. FTW!!! I kind of figured the rods wouldnt live very long. I can't even flirt with putting a window in my car. Do any big name companies make rods for these cars.

Good to know thanks man. Horsepower will maybe someday be my goal with my car. But right now I'm riding out all of this EPA garbage before I do anything.

Even with a Malone tune and exhaust, my car would be at around 210 hp and and 340 ft-lbs, which is not to far off of a factory 12 valve. I can't imagine a 2,000 lb car with that kind of power.

only time will tell. Im going to be pushing it I do know that but i have seen guys at 210hp before spraying methanol in them. I will have numbers from the dyno and honestly I wont believe them unless there is no correction factor. I have been doing a little bit of searching to see if my Race 520s set at stage 3 pressures will be the ticket.

short list

11mm IP
stage 3 race 520s done by fly by wire
billet compressor 17/22 with housing modifications
arp head studs
ilovetacotaco metal smic
upgraded intercooler tubing
old man intake
malone tuning
southbend stage 2 endurance
2.5in exhaust
PD150 intake
PD Race Pipe
Lift pump

the key to bending rods is how you also run the engine. if your doing a lot of low rpm pulls you will be bending. I tend to run my car up in the rpms though. ask swole that one LOL

They have a modified cp3 for them. i dont think duals have been used yet cause a ford cp3 is being used on the fast car. 2 lines per injector.

Malone is the man for tuning. There are a couple companies on ebay that are selling 300 dollar rods for these cars. I just didnt wanna make a much larger project. I have a second engine for that. the big name rods are 500 bucks.

And its on the road again. The thing is running damn good even with low fueling. injectors are hopefully going to be ordered this week and can finally get the thing tuned.

I'm running the same eBay cooler. What cold pipe to the engine did you use? My first attempt to fit the thing was less than stellar. Rubbed the headlight and tensioner.

Seth can do ALH injectors, and can make them single stage if you want. And he's pretty fair priced at that.
