Let talk Engines!!!!!

FYI, this is the truck that started my Detroit kick...... What Im planning is pretty close, just with a flat bed that comes with the truck instead of that weird bed they have on it.

I have found a 12v or two I like. Just older box trucks.... 2wd, 5sp. and flad frame rails for the flat bed. Most have been going at 1500-2000. Of course they are in pretty rough shape, but I dont care too much as long as the engine/trans works

What is the smallest engines that have jake brakes? I always wanted to make a rat rod with a jake!!

Real jakes....I'd say L10 cummins, or maybe you could find a set for a 6-71 Detroit...

A 6-71 with jakes and a straight pipe would be BAD noisy.

I wonder what ever happened to the guy that built the b series jake setup?

I swear I say a 6v92 that said it had jakes......and air start. Was in a 70's or 80's International Cab Over......

That sounds like too much fun!!!

I have a 6v92 with jakes, they aren't what I'd consider "small".

Yeah, I mean they're only 552 cubes, but they are pretty big for that size displacement.

They did have jakes though!

I hadn't been around one in a long time, I forgot how tall they are. A 53 isn't real small either.

I always wanted to do a hot rod idi international in something light, small parallel twins and as much fuel as she'd suffer. 350-375 to the ground would be fun in a 3500lb truck.

The best part about using the Deutz is you would only have to fill the tank once in its life. Our neighbor baled hay with one and I swear the thing made fuel.

Couple guys here very local are Deutz nut jobs. They have a couple pulling tractors running around but I don't think they mess with them anymore. They had them running very well.

We have an international pickup with a duetz and a halfbreed 5 speed behind it. It's a real POS but it's fun lol

In 2009 I had a 6.9 with a modified IP that would turn 4800rpm and it had some big injectors in it. I had a guy mill the top of the intake off and I used an old blower adapter that went on a single 4 barrel SBC intake. It was 3/4" thick aluminum. I had a guy tig the plate to the IDI intake and he added braces front and rear. I used a 671 weiand from a BBC and bolted it up. The same guy that milled the intake modified a blower drive pulley for me. I put it in a 27 T with zoomies. I sold the dang thing before I had it finished. It went to Texas and I haven't heard from him or seen it since. That thing was crazy loud. :hehe: When my old computer crashed I lost all of the pics of it. The most expensive part was the 671 but everything else was real cheap. I almost did another one to put in my 40 Ford but I have a 354 Hemi for it instead.

Yeah! That's kinda what I was thinking, old schoolish hot rod but with a diesel. There was a 40's ih kb3 cab and chassis down the road from me that got me thinking, I thought ih/ih would be cool. Not sure if I could live with a real straight piped idi though, a kid in college had one with the banks headers and it was stupid loud. I thought maybe twins would quiet it down enough to be tolerable.

I have a 504CID Naturally aspirated inline 6 from an old Minneapolis Moline G1000 tractor...those things are stupid obnoxious straight piped. I've always thought about an old rat of some sort with that in it, but you can't find decent donors around here...everything has rusted down 40 years ago.

I have been in touch with Wayne. Wayne owns "Thunder Brake" and I watched a video where they were looking for investors. When I first spoke with him, all I could do was offer investment monies. What I found out was they actually wanted someone to take the idea and market it. All they want to do is build them.

Over a year passed and I started this Stalnaker Racing Services deal. So, I contacted Wayne and asked for 20 units to fit 89-98.5 B series cummins. Wayne and I are working a deal out as we speak. They have changed up their design a bit and I am really impressed. I wont have a whole lot of trouble selling these things. lol

I will list a price when we settle up on what manufacturing cost are going to be. Of course, I'll have to test a few of them out first. LOL

Good, I'm glad to hear it didn't disappear forever

I want to "test" one. Please?

I tried buying one a couple years ago and then they said they were still working on them because they weren't offering any actually braking power. Back then it was around $3500. I asked them if they studied the cam profiles of the 855s to see if they could find the differences from the old non jake engines and the actual jake engines. I'm betting their issues were with running a stock cam. It would be cool if they can get them done, marketed and available to the market at a decent price.
