New Borg Warner S300sxe Turbos

i am curious about the turbine wheels as i had a sales pitch thrown at me with them. are they the same or different? I know the sizes are the same but curious about design.

To share the information we have been discussing, the 68/76mm turbine currently used will carry over into the SX-E line, however the 73/80mm turbine wheel design has been changed. The machined back-cut has been replaced with a less aggressive cast clip, I had hoped this was the change they would make, this will allow the turbine wheel to be much more responsive.

What was tehe reason for the back cut anyways?
Just to lighten up the wheel, flow more?

I tried a 66mm x 73/.80 and it was a laggy *****.

If they changed the wheel to the "J-Cup" style...I'd be willing to try another one on my setup.

The machined clip was to alleviate a blade harmonic in the wheel's original application from John Deere, the majority of the newer BW turbine wheels have a cup style inducer.

Is this the same turbine wheel that is used in say an s465/83/.90.....just without the clipped wheel? (Same harmonic issue? )

What would spool easier, a T3 x 66/68/.83 or a T4 65/83/.90?

No they are different wheels entirely, the 68/76mm S300 wheel is the same design as the 74/83mm S400 turbine wheel, so the smaller of the two will spool faster.

Sorry....I meant between a S300 73/83 and the s400 74/83. (Being that the S300 wheel is clipped and the s400 isn't.

The 73/80mm S300 wheel would most likely spool slower than the 74/83mm S400 turbine, do understand that the 73mm turbine wheel has an aggressive 20.5° machined clip.

The 73 turbine is no longer clipped?

The newer version in the SX-E line supposedly has a cast 10° clip.

The revised version of the 73/80mm turbine wheel in the SX-E line will be much better for your intended use, and in that instance I would choose it over the larger 74/83mm S400 turbine wheel.

Are they changing the turbine wheel design in the s400 chassis too?

(There are a couple s465/83/.90 turbos for sale...will the new turbine wheels be the same as these 83/74 wheels, or are they changing this wheel also?)

Below is the revised 73/80mm turbine for the new SX-E line.
