00' 3/4 ton 4x4 CrewCab Twin Turbo Dakota

Well it's been a little since I've posted anything about the truck. The truck made it to TS over the weekend. I dyno'd the truck Friday at the races. I had no idea how the truck was going to do. Only had 2 miles on the setup before the dyno. The truck made 473 hp at 46 lbs. Primaries only made 12 lbs. I could also tell how the truck was doing @1500 rpms something wasn't right. So i looked out the mirror and there was a solid black cloud out of the tail pipe. then cleared up completely at 2800 rpms. Come to find out the afc was some how hung open about 40% open the entire time. It wouldn't move, so tonight I'm going to figure out what it is. I drove it from beech bend to the hotel and then the next morning to Franklin. Turbos spool pretty good and will get better once I fix the AFC. So I may have 60 miles on the turbos now.

I changed the look a bit.

Next update the truck should have a 4 link up front.

Front 4link is under way. Top control arm center eye to eye 31 1/4"... Bottom is 37 1/4". I'm hoping it rides better with the longer arms. Front is a bushing and the rear is a heim joint. tubing is 1.5" x .250" DOM.
On the bushing end, I welded a 1" x 1.375" solid bar to it and then slid it in the tubing.
Plate is 3" x .250"

I think I'm going to just clear coat the bars.

Got Fuel??

I had Seth @ Farrell Diesel Service build me a 13mm pump... 875cc @full tilt. Currently set @ 500cc. 5k's

Also got some 5x.020's.

I'm currently in the process of building a new motor for it also.

Block: Stock Brazilian Rods. Mahle pistons 286210, valve reliefs cut, Hamilton cam 188 or 194. Balanced bottom end.
Head: intake milled off, me built intake manifold, cut for firerings, port and polish. Hamilton Springs, Manton 7/16 .120 Pushrods.
Fuel: FDS 13mm, 5x.020's, .093 lines, 2-A1000 pumps, Fuel lab regulator @ 65psi.
Air: Billet 63 w/JGS 44mm gate over Billet s484

Hey bud i talked to you at TS before we dynoed. Just wanted to tell you again that truck is slick!

Ill take one like this with a 4bt for a little better economy and not as lifted. PM me if you interested in building one for $$.

rockytopcummins I seen that. Maybe before too long there will be a feature in one of the mags.

Well here is a little update for the truck.

As if you couldn't tell I'm always changing things around. My mind produces too many ideas (of what I think is cool and different).

First off I'm wanting to keep this truck streetable and be able to tow ( my "race" dakota).

So I'm going to keep this motor in it and have a "mild" truck.

That being said. No more triples. Just twins. 63/68/.83 w/JGS40 gate feeding- billet 84/96/1.32. (Primary will probably be downsized if I dont like the way it performs.) I have never seen another street truck with turbos arranged in this location like this (doesn't mean it hasn't happened).

I also built a new manifold to position my secondary where I want it.

No 13mm pump(on this dakota). Same 160 pump 191 DV's, racked barrels, usual afc mods, 100plate, 80PSI FP, 5x.016's in it(may try the 5x.020's), Timing is still at 22*(may bump to 26*)

My engine bay way getting extremely hot. It probably didnt help that I had 3 turbine housing in such a tight spot. So I'm moving my Radiator out of the engine bay.

Here is a teaser pic of the (differently arranged primary- also the turbo in the pic is a just 67.7- not the 84)

20140901_165625.jpg

I'll post more pictures when I get it all wrapped up and sorta clean!

Also I'm dragging this truck out of the barn and going to give a complete make over maybe new back half and cage with 4 slicks instead of 2 and try my best to have it ready for TS since the #6.7gldngoat hasn't even started

Just a little update, the truck is running great with the new twins, 63/84 with just spring pressure in the external gate, it makes 36psi- 12 from the primary- with the plate all the way back. With the plate full forward it makes 40- 17 from the primary(only turning to 3k)- And with regulator it's set at 64psi-26 from the primary. Time to add some more fuel.- It's a stock pump with 181's, 5x.016's, 22* timing. EGT's dont get above 1100*

Here are some pictures.

I moved the Radiator to the bed- ran 1.5" steel tubing with some hose to connections. I'll get some pictures of it.

I moved the alternator to where the A/C compressor location for the Primary's new locaton.

A couple new things are coming for the truck- I'm building a round tube chassis along with AIR ride- rear is getting 4 link'd-(possibly AAM axles 3.73's), Gooseneck hitch, Custom fuel tank- engine bay will be getting a make-over. New fuel system.

Once the new chassis is built ill have room for a larger radiator under the bed

Big Change Of Plans

Well folks, I've always talked about having/building something different. Like I stated before I'm building a tube chassis with air ride.

So a little more info on what is going on.

Round Tube Chassis- 1-3/4x .110 wall. 1-1/2x .110 gussets. It's a twin rail and going to have a total height of 7"- 3.5" spacing between the rails also going to have an outer frame support that will also help with the cab mounts. The front and rear are going to 3.5" taper on each side.

Air Ride- 10" of travel(maybe 11") on all 4 corners- will be using Firestone bus airbags and Bilstein shocks. The front will 4 link'd, rear will be a triangulated 4 link.
I have got an air system in my head that I'm going to use- I will disclose that when I get closer to it.
I'm going to stick with a Dana axles, just going to use the 3.54 gear ratio axles I have instead of the 4.10

The major plan change
6.7 Common Rail- I've got a donor truck that I was going to use the powertrain for my 1/2 ton build, but now I'm changing that. If I find a transmission (standard shift) I will be making the swap to it. but if not I've got the 47rh currently in the truck and a core 48re in the barn-
Power plans for now- billet 72/87/1.0, 200-250 hp nozzles, 10mm cp3 or a twin kit, EFIlive

I'm not sure how long it's going to take, hoping only a couple months.
LET THE FUN BEGIN

Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have the rear axle mounted. and have bags on it too. And this weekend I plan on pulling the truck in the garage and pulling the drivetrain and cab off the old frame. and getting the new cab mounts fabbed up.

Slow Progress

I haven't been able to get much done lately on the chassis. But is does Roll on its own now!!! I was going to pull the truck in the garage a few weeks back and start tearing it down, but instead I fixed a few things on it and started driving it again. Only for the time being till I got the frame to the point as to where it is now.

It's sitting LOW- would be the "PARKED" position. It will have 9" of up travel from here. Ride height will be some where around 4-5" higher than the current height.

Bottom rail is 10" off the ground and the X-member is 4.5" with the tires im going to run we can add about an 1.25 to 1.5"

REAR BAG MOUNTS/ SUSP

The top link is just something TEMP i built just to keep it somewhat center. It'll be replaced with 1.75 x .250 DOM when I figure out what kind of clearance I'll have for the cab and bed

The bag mounts will get a coupe more bars added to them to stiffen/strengthen it. You can also see where the radiator is going to go, except its going to be under the frame. It's a aluminum replacement for a 7.3L Powerstroke. it is ALOT bigger than the current radiator in the truck.

BAD NEWS No 6.7 just yet, going back with the 12V just with hopefully alot more power than it's currently got. Different chargers will most likely be added to the mix also and have to run a different manifold, so may build a header for it.

After schied's this weekend Im going to hopefully get back on it heavy and try to have it finished before the end of OCT.

Already the sickest Dakota around but it's goin to be one of a kind for sure after the new frame and air ride. Keep up the good work man

Thanks Hdhorton! This is definitely one of the "funnest" things I've built.

Finally got some more work done.

Not having a lift definitely made this past weekend take WAY longer than it should. But I'm still happy with the progress.

Old Frame Out
I decided that it would be easier if I left the drivetrain in the old chassis and remove it later. Turns out I was right!

Sometime this week ill get in on the ground and get the motor and trans in it then start working on cab/bed mounts. Then finish up the welding on the chassis (adding more bracing) I think this frame is going to end up saving a couple hundred LBS
