2.6 Turbo Limitations

Well what i have seen is, the more rules that a class has, the more expensive it is to compete. Seem impossible? Just think about it.

You have to have rules so that everyone can compete. This helps those who don't have endless funds participate on a level they can afford. I think the rules should be followed more often in the county fair pulls. To many of them don't even tech under the hood.

It also goes the other way. Do you think a "real" 2.6" charger (say with a 98 or 100mm exducer) is really going to be competitive with 3" modded chargers with 102 or 105 or 108mm wheels counterbored into the covers? How's that make it cheaper for anyone? I'll wager that all the guys in the top 10 will have custom chargers.

If that seems like small potatoes, think of it this way: (from Garrett's website)

GT4094: 2.67" factory inducer, max flow @ PR = 3 is 80lbs/min.

GT4202: 2.94" factory inducer, max flow @ PR = 3 is 94 lbs/min (+17%)

Of course the counterbore or "bushing in place" will take some off of that. But you still wind up with say 10% more air. It's significant.

This will make it much easier to tech, for sure. But I don't see this as lowering the cost for any competitor who wants to run up front.

Time will tell.

I am new to pulling and want to pull in this class. What is my best option for a 2.6 charger? Custom or off the shelf! We arent teched down here yet and I want to make sure I am running the best charger I can for this class.

You can PM if you want!

Thanks in advance.
Josh

WHAT YOU DON'T THINK ANYONE WILL RUN CUSTOM CHARGERS IF THEY HAD A 100MM RULE. WE HAD 5 OR 6 RUNNING CUSTOM CHARGERS LAST YEAR IN OUR 2.6 CLASS W/ 100MM RULE. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE RULES ARE CAUSE THE PULLERS THAT DO THEIR HOMEWORK AND SPENDS THEIR MONEY WHERE IT NEEDS SPENT WILL BE THE ONES UP FRONT.

P.S. SORRY MY CAPS ARE STILL STUCK ON..

Custom machined cover built for a 2.6-2.65 plug With a billet shaft/wheel. There is no way most 2.6 classes are going to be entry level next year. Its just way to competitive. Just read this whole thread.

Yor right Chris it won't be entry level anymore but there will be some trucks that will be competitive with entry level stuff. Power does little with out setup and atleast some knowledge of the sport.

I hope things stay that way! But there are people that simply have huge pockets and will pay to have a truck set-up with an agreement to have that companies stickers plastered all over. I also, have a 98 dually(450hp) That hangs with a lot of the higher dollar pullin rigs but in the end it comes down to money if you want to win. IMO

low tech redneck i am tring to figure out if upgrading my 2.5htt to a 2.6 is going to be worth it i dont have tons of cash as high tech and i have talked about traction bars i want to be competative but who knows i sure hope my little 2.5 64/71/13ss will hang with the dogs thinking of jumping turbo to 66/71/13ss do you think that will help?

Evan, I would upgrade If you want to be more competitive. Also, When I had my 64/71/13, it allowed a 2.55 plug to pass threw. When I measured it, it came out to be 2.57. I'd sell your 64 and get an s-465.

i have one that would would be will to get rid of, only about 5 runs on it.

What pat do ya need? The rules havent been put in an official rule book yet, but we do have the rules set. PM me or TAZMAN (Ric) for any rules you need.

So what is the best turbo to run for the 2.6 class. Even if custom

list them out

"Best" is a hard thing to put an answer to there is no hard number for it. What do you feel makes something the best?

What works for one engine package will fall flat on another. Have one built to your set up, with your goals in mind, that fits within your budget. That would be the "best" charger for you.
