24v Spoolup

Lookin for a new huffer Timmmay? IMO the SledPuller66/14 is a great turbo for the street driver that likes to play. Could support 500hp and spool is suprisingly good. I ran a sledpuller68 on mine and i swear it spooled as fast as my SPS62.

My super secret turbo spools quick with my super secret injectors and pump combination. All kidding aside, mine spools around 11-1200 and goes full tilt by 1700 and blows the tires to an instant 2500 or so.

And my super secret drive pressure is thru the roof...

You guys with singles, what do you run (both compressor and turbine) and where does it light?(RPM)

Do you prefer a quick lighting charger or a lazier one that that will make more hp?

Well I ran a 64/14 then went to a 62/71. Both would start to build boost at 1400 (lugging in OD) and really come alive by 2000 rpms. The smaller turbine on the 64 was nicer in low rpms and around town, but it'd choke quick with frequent black clouds. The 62/71 on the other hand isn't as friendly down low imo but when its spooling the smoke is grey instead of black and the truck really sings up top.

II 62/14 is a great daily driver turbo. I love mine. Spool is a little slower than stock but not horrible. Great trailer towing turbo too. Here's where it lights. (6th gear pull, 3:55 gears, 285R16 tires) It loves to be above 2K. Set for 43 psi max pressure.

For comparison, here is my silver bullet chart, peak tq and hp moves up over 500 rpms

I have 3.55's............ I suspect that this is part of the reason that 3rd gens spool chargers quicker, seeing as how most have 3.73's

I'm sure the 3.73's help alot, but 3rd gens spool faster because they have a 3rd injection event where we only have 2.

And the common rail head flows tons more air. Thats why VP guys that are looking for big power (winspeed) run common rail heads. Also check out IC-Smokes Cr head thread.

how many more CFM...yes i know its a little better but "tons" more...i doubt it

Can't seem to find the thread...

I pretty impressed with my sps66(66/71/14). I like how it makes about 4 lbs. of boost almost instantly(like 1100 rpm). Makes around-town driving real nice. From there it's pretty lazy until 10 lbs./1800 rpm which is where it takes off. It will actually light at 1700, but with real nasty surging. It's easy to drive around though. I have the gate set for 50 lbs. and it gets there somewhere between 1900 and 2000 rpm. The thing that I don't like is the egt's. Cruising temps are between 1000 and 1200*. WOT temps peg the pyro over 1600 in about 4 secs. I think my problem is I have the TST set to level 6 to get enough fuel to work the turbo(HO vp's suck!) I think it will run better when I finally get a HRVP.

I've never ran anything smaller or larger than a 64 compressor. I have tried both the 65 and 71 on the exhaust side and prefer the 71.

The 2nd Generation VP44 equipped Cummins have 2 injection events?

Some

My VP44 has 6 injection event, one for each cylinder.
Now per cylinder my friends 03 has 2 and then my dads 06 has 3, my vp44 just has one. :(

And my sky high drive pressure makes 300+ HP at 2100 RPM

I'm running the old school sledpuller 66/14 and the rpms don't seem to matter. Anything over 10 lbs boost hold on 50 lbs is just a second away.

i wanna try a 66 or 71 soooooo bad but my 64 lit around 2000 and peak tourqe was around 2200 with hp being over 2600 rpm... ill get the graph to feel cool

4.10 gears...i had a sps 62/71/14...i now have a ps 62/65/14. big difference in daily driving and towing. the sps is not as quick spool up that some say it to be. it took alot more pedal(fuel) to get it going and it was not great for towing. when towing, my egts cruising were 150-200 degrees hotter with the sps. the ps takes less pedal to get going which made it easier and funner to tow with. the only thing i liked about the sps was a WOT run or climbing a steep hill while towing. and that only happens about 1% of my driving.
