2nd Gen WOKE ME UP!

Ive owned all three generations. 3rd gen with a common rail drives 10 times nicer. They don't need front end parts all the time have good breaks, boxed frames, 4 real doors and will run a long time trouble free. I think any P Pump or VE guy thinks every 3rd gen has injector problems and burns the engine up. I have 2 of them and wouldnt want anything else besides maybe a 2010 or newer. I hated driving my old 93 any distance talk about a log wagon and the non lock up tranny sucks.

I love my old 12 valve, but would not be the least bit embarrased in a new cr cummins. Finances just don't want to cooperate.

True but it is a first gen.

I may own a third gen. someday. The 12 valves are starting to show their age around here. Rust seems to be a problem they have but the 3rd gens seem to rust as bad.

I agree the second gen fwd drives bad, nothing seems to help much.

I still like the old first gen. Its surprisingly similiar to my first truck a 74 Chevy K20. The old 12 valves soldier on thats for sure I like them just not as a daily driver but a work truck they can't be beat.

I've ridden in 3rd gen gas 2500 rams that don't ride as nice or feel as solid as my 97. Ofcourse, I have a 3rd gen track arm, the DSS, among other suspension upgrades and have boxed portions of the c-channel portion of my frame. My truck has some rust issues but i plan to address them and have already installed new rockers. For the $$$ and reliability and easy ability for lots of power these trucks are hard to beat but that's must my opinion. If you don't have a garage and don't want to work on your truck though the 2nd gens are probably not as good of a choice.

The look on the faces of some of the innocent victims in their mustangs, mercedes, etc. when getting destroyed by my old 2nd gen is quite priceless though! :p

Another person who presumes that just because someone "PREFERS" something, that he's totally against another, quit being presumptuous and be practical.
If I could AFFORD a 3rd gen, 4 door dually long bed, I'd have one.

However, I do agree that the 1st gen automatics definitely do suck nuts and ride like crap.

For anyone who is complaining about bad steering on a 2nd gen, try a 1st gen. When you can't figure out where the "death wobble" is coming from, it's terrible and sometimes the cure is as stupid simple as replacing wheel bearings!
You'd better know a little about electrical, too.
They each and every one have their flaws.

My 91 had more wiring gremlins than I could even begin to count, the steering sucked, and the trans was only a damn 3 speed, but it was a TOUGH old truck

Quit being such a d!ck. Everybody has their opinions and just cause you have a chip on your shoulder isn't gonna change their views.

I guess the preacher has spoken. LOL
The "Ignore User" function works very well on here. ;)

]So then you understand my "awe" going from the V-10 5 speed to the 215HP 12 valve[/B]. :D
The V-10 was a dismal failure and my '91 Intercooled truck would tow circles around it, but the '96 is like 2 different worlds away from the VE.

I don't generally turn my trucks up, because I don't like the idea of breaking stuff and I drive great distances, so a broken truck in, say, California is a big inconvenience.

The part that got me the most is that I went to DieselWrencher's place and back, 430 miles, on 3/4 tank (35 gallon tank) of fuel, got a decent ride and reasonable acceleration.
I had @ 1,000 pounds of cargo I didn't feel, either in the suspension, or the acceleration and even stock it'll pull my 2 car hauler around here without a problem. :D

Mark.

This confuses me, last V-10 5 speed I drove required 4th and 5th gears for city driving to keep it going in a strait line, and my 360 5 speed was alot faster than my 12v without a trailer until my 12v got some work. That being said I love my 12V but everthing is better than putting fuel in a dodge gas motor.

I didnt say every 2nd gen gets death wobble. I was stating unless you put a bunch of money in one after it gets some miles they wander all over the place and you have to herd them down the road. 1st gens well they are old school trucks and show it. There isnt much difference between this 93 and the 67 Intertrashional 3/4 ton 4x4 that I have.
cool trucks just not much there in amenities or driving habits.
I agree bone stock 97 is tow monster you drive 6 speed 03 and newer with a smarty. Thats just the berries but I dont want you to think I dont like the older trucks

I guess my point is that the P-7100 just feels more powerful (torque-y?)than the V-10 in every aspect, and yes, I did miss running a Cummins.
Maybe I'm making a big deal over nothing, but I sure like the way it runs compared to anything else I've driven so far.

What's that you say? Stock 12-valve fast? Powerful? Nice?...Really? What the fuk parallel universe did I just step into...

If the OP thinks a stock 12-valve 2nd Gen Dodge is powerful/fast/quick (whatever) and nice to drive then I am actually happy for him...I guess.

I feel somewhat...differently about them.

I'd trade mine for a llama right now. Well maybe a llama and an ostrich or two.

Another great pissing contest. And more obvious stated. At least we know a little more about everyone's age and finances.

If he likes his truck then I am actually happy for him. One saves a lot of money when they like a truck in stock form.

And I just turned four for your information...
