2nd Gen WOKE ME UP!

Everything is funnier (or seems that way at the time) at 3-5 A.M.. Why do you think I blurt out all the random crap that I do (yes- as well as what I am sure you just thought to yourself)LOL.

No I concur. Anything after 1 for me is pure delirium(including this).

So glad you gentlemen enjoyed the read!
Hope I can amuse you further in the future.
And really, I do like the truck just fine, it's not often you can just jump right into one and say that.
I'll certainly feed it more fuel and a decent turbo, I can't resist more horsepower, like anyone else.

Mark.

Chin up mark. It not your imagination, the p-pump does add a whole new feel to something that had a VE. These spoiled rich kids with their 3rd gens just don't understand that cup holders and computers do not make the truck.

Mark, after about the 3rd douchebag post, I skipped the rest. I know what you mean, don't listen to the busted block, failed lift pump, failed vp 44, failed CP3, failed DPF, etc etc etc etc crew.

The 97 215 was and is Diesel pickup perfection.

They will still be on the road, long after the electran wizards are parked because the computer can't decide which sensor is bad today, or the wrong fuel was used and upset the emission crap.

And to the guy who said his 5.3 Gasser can out run a 215? Put a load on it and head for a hill.:rockwoot::evil

Engine perfection- closer than most

Pickup perfection- hardly

You know I've owned and operated every generation and configuration of Dodge Cummins trucks over the years. I love my little first gen and have a sweat spot for the VP trucks. It all comes down to what you like. I've had Duramax and powerstrokes and they are not my thing. I know Mark really seems to like this truck and that's what's important. I just get tired of hearing how this model or brand is stupid junk and if you own it you must be stupid. This is what most threads on here have turned into.

RonA and Sleddy, I think what folks driving the electro-mechanical trucks don't like is being reminded of their inherent shortfalls, just as much as we VE guys don't like to be told of the limitations of our pump of choice, we also have the smarts to overcome the adversities of our machines.

Personally, if the only crutches to my 1996 are the track bar issue, rust (mine's really clean) and 5th gear nut "maybe" falling off, then, damn, I'll take my chances!

Mark.

It would be a shame for you to stop driving a first gen. All the additional connective tissue your body has built to hold your kidneys in place to survive the 1st gen suspension is going to atrophy and you may not be able to go back to one later.

LOL

Imagine what it was like driving the R/C in my avatar, I'd lose weight just driving it down the road!

I acquired a 1993 1 ton E/C dually 4x4 a while back, which I need to "de-rust".
If that thing doesn't keep me "in tune" nothing will!

I love the 1st gen trucks, I'll always have one.

Mark.

I guess that is why my wife nick-named my first gen 3500 Teddy Rosevelt, aka the Rough Rider. You can spill more beer than swallow while driving it.

No, just kinda' deciding what to do.
Maybe tickle the pump, investigate injectors and figure which turbo and combo will be better for a dedicated tow rig.

For now it'll just be a long trip parts mover.

Mark.
