84 Chevy Crew Cab 12v Conversion

Hey flat black, seriously can you please change your sig, eveytime i see a comment from you i waste 3-5 minutes! Ok sorry bout the dissruption, continue.

I heard that. seems i always get more enjoyment in the hunt for a project than actually doing anything with the project once i get it :nail:

True getting a new project is always exciting. I do enjoy actually fabricating and makeing things for my project but at times the time it takes me to get stuff done really can kill motivation. But with the cummins setting on my shop floor it helps with the motivation because I have wanted to own a cummins sense I was 5 and now I am finally making that happen.

Well I finally got the correct 12v adapter plate and also got a bell housing for the transmission.

Next step is to start mounting it up. Everything will get painted later, but its starting to get cold and I cant heat my shop so painting is going to have to wait. Once I get the motor mounted I am going to pull the cab and make the transmission cross member and then start working on all the small stuff I need to do to get this thing running. I have to run all new brake lines, fuel lines, and install a 40 gallon burb tank in the back.

The engine is clean and the engine is just painted with high temp paint from the auto parts store.

What exhaust manifold is that? Looks like that would be great for some conversions that have interference issues with HVAC boxes.

I've been told that it is an industrial manifold. It does seem like it allows for a lot of clearance room over there.

Tonight I went ahead and set the motor in so that I can start fabbing up mounts. I have the motor setting on 4 jack stands and still have my chain hoist holding up on it some but it looks to be right where I need it.

Planning on trying to get the transmission and transfercase bolted up behind it this weekend and then start making the mounts. Not sure how I am going to do this just yet as I dont have a transmission jack, but I have used my shop crane to put my sm465 and np205 in this truck before so I may try that again.

Looking good.

It is amazing how shop dogs can get into pictures without you noticing.

Thanks man. Yeah he is a crazy dog. But hes one of the best ones Ive ever had. I dont think I can go anywhere near a vehicle and him not want to go with me.

Got up this morning and decided to get the transmission and transfercase in. It actually went in pretty easy using my shop crane.

Going to start making mounts for the drivetrain soon. Looks like everything is in a good place and im happy with it.

Well started making the mounts, my first plan was not going to work so I have started a new idea. So far so good.

There will be a lot of gussets added so it will be strong. Hoping to get these finished and then make a removable cross member soon.

Got the mounts made today. Went a little different than what I was starting out with. Took 2x4x1/4 tubing and cut the top part off and made my mounts.

I will be putting gussets on the bottom as well for added strength. Next thing to do is make the transmission cross member then I will pull the drive train out and fully weld all of the mounts then I'm going to drop the drive train back in and figure out something for an engine cross member.

Question for you Matt. I am planning on starting the 85 chevy/cummins conversion when i get home.I am not worried about nothing but the fuel tank setup it has one on each side.My question to you is what are your plans ?
thanks
Chase

Going to be swapping in a 40 gal burb tank in the rear and going to install a draw straw into it.
