All This Air/Water Talk How About Pics?

Bump for more pics.

Anyone running an Air to Air intercooler in conjunction with a Air to Water? I'm interested in this idea but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort.

Would I see an increase in turbo lag with the additional piping?

It would be for a sled pulling truck that already has a A/A intercooler. I would be running ice in a separate tank hooked to the A/W and a radiator for heat exchange. The truck would also be somewhat daily and be used for towing.

Also what do you guys think about cooling one stage of compounds with the A/A and the other stage with the A/W?

Any input or links would be appreciated.

Ill take some pics of my intercoolers. They arent in the truck but they are pics.

Here is the first Generation air-water kit we ran:

I can't find the new generation pics right now, I think they are on the shop computer.

I went from 30-45 seconds spoolup with my auto to 10 seconds or less to light the charger, it made a huge difference. I would never go without. Truck ran a ton stronger with the Air/Water vs a air/air Spearco.

Caution to those wanting to run cheaper cores.. Beware of weak cores, it would certainly suck to have a core fail and send ice water directly into the engine.

If im not mistaken thats what killed one of Swamps race trucks. 7.3 was rumored to be a 1K hp then the air/water failed and hyrolocked it.

I will be doing this, trying for very very low intake temps.

go to my pix

been there done it years ago - still doin it

a/w between stages a/a aftercooler

works exceptionally well

side note - I would be surprised that a w/a could leak enough water in 18 seconds of a pull to hydrolock a motor - some of you guys are already pourin more water than that purposely as water injection

WHy don't you put the a/w as your final stage? The A/A will not get it any cooler than ambient, so if you have a nice cool a/w you would further cool it.

zstroken

Because the air between the chargers needed to be cooled and cant do that with a/a
and yes the a/a can only do ambient - but if the air comin from the chargers is cooler by virtue of the w/a then the a/a has a less chore to cool to ambient

and ambient from say 250 or so degrees is a lot of free hp

this year I am runnin a single charger so only runnin the water/air as I can get less than ambient with it

I would think that if the core failed under a boost it would leak boost into the the water passages and not water into the air. I wouln't think the little pump would be creating that much pressure. I could see it filling the air chamber with water in a zero boost situation, like idle.

I'll stick with Ebay models for under $150

I'll never see 70 -80 psi test pressure so no worries on my end, of the core breaking and leaking

Yes if the core leaks it would be boost into the cooler not water into the boost tubes 60 psi boost - 12 psi water

Ive got those exact water/air intercoolers. Except for 1/6th of the price. Then you can get your own pump and things and have $1000 into the entire kit instead of $3000. Ive sold many of them. Have plenty to sell as well.
