Anybody had this much trouble with NV4500?

see thats what i was thinking to i found a few on ebay for 1,000 and i thought that was pretty resonable

i have broken 2 in the last month, i picked up a brand new aftermarket with upgraded main and counter shafts 1200.00 plus freight. check out Midwest transmissions Zumbrota MN

ok im at whits end... last night i lost third again pulled the tranny and i could see major carnage on the bottom shaft.. the gear was half rounded off soo this will make for the second countershaft and 3rd gear!!! What in the world am i doing wrong??? like you all say... this thing is pretty much bullet proof for what all i have.. my buddy has a 1,200 hp pulling truck with one of these in and hes only broke 2nd once!! who all votes for new case?

Do you change gears with or without the clutch?

the only problem i've ever had is 5th gear nut and clutch... and i give mine hell idk man it could be your driving style or just something with YOUR tranny...

The nv5600 is a 6 speed, the nv4500 is a 5 speed. There is another 6 speed that is called the G56 used in 06 up trucks. Both 6 speeds are very expensive to build, but they are twice as strong as the nv4500. The nv5600 has reverse all the way right & up, the G56 is on the left & up [shifter]. My brother just blew 4th gear out of his 04.5 a few months back, found a local tranny shop who built him a new unit for $1800 installed. My brother hauls 16k# quite often with his Smarty on sw1 & his foot buried in the throttle, very whiplash driving habits. The nv5600 lasted 125k hard towing/racing miles at 550hp.

the g56 reverse is a;; the way left and down man

Ok i think ive decided to go with a whole new transmission. Who hear can tell me of a good place that i could go to that wont void waranty for having my truck turned up?

We just had two aftermarket ones shiped to us and they were both junk. One had a broken mainshaft and the other one you couldnt shift at all. Lets try lucky number 3.

call him and tell hiim you want the same set up Dan from Valair got, its a square top so if you have a round you will need the shifter as well another 50 bucks or so. i also have to put the 1.375 shaft in mine but i have that covered.

When you say square top im guessing you mean the square shift block? and ill just swap the input shafts out on the tranny's when i get the new one and put my billet in the new one... one other thing i noticed bout my tranny
is that my input shaft seemed like the bearing was out.. there isnt supposed to be any end play is there? how do i get this adjusted?

All three of them have came from trans star because the shop that said they could rebuild the first one couldnt and ordered a replacement. I really wish I would have just called Dan to start with. He has always been great at awnsering my questions. I need to give him a call and get some parts ordered for a transfer case.
