Are the 6.4 really that bad?

I know they look terrible but they really aren't that hard to work on. You can repair everything cab on. Only thing I pull cabs for anymore is if the heads are coming off. The power potential of them is pretty awesome to. Put a tune, delete, and a drop in replacement atmosphere turbo from elite and they'll roll 670hp. With no studs and a stock tranny even. Not saying they'll go for ever with out studs and needing a trans. But they'll go along time.

At what range do they start popping heads at? I dont know how agressive the h&s was on the one i did but it didnt feel "that fast"

Are they better with or with out the stock turbos? I seen them with just singles.

It must not have been a very high setting. the 300HD will run high 12's/low 13's no problem with a 4wd launch

Anything over the 275 tune and you should start saving for studs. Some people survive for a while on the higher tunes.. but it's a crapshoot..

Just for further reference.. a 345 KEM tune or comparable tuner's "hot" tune should be around 535 RWHP

No, they are actually the best engines International ever made.
They are the only one I'd consider if I wanted to buy a Ford.

The 7.3 is a bucket of nails, it makes a lot more noise than power.
The 6.0 is a good engine if you delete the EGR system.
Ford's 6.7 is junk all-round.

And your statement that the Ford 6.7 is junk, just exactly what are you basing that on? I'm real curious to where you got this info from.

Now we are talking Forrest......

I decided to load my old Spartan 310 tune recently and blew the upper and lower radiator hose from its high back pressures. (funny thing is dealer warranted it because they have different boots and claps now that are tougher). I have ran the KEM 345 for 55k now. That tune kicks ass. A little smokey putting around but so is my other diesel lol.

Point being is the hoses and one EGT sensor is all that has gone wrong on this truck to date. It tows heavy (with the KEM tune I might add) and hauls ass.

I would buy another 6.4 in a heart beat.

Thought it was 550 or so with the 310?

I'll agree with him I'll never own a new ford with a 6.7 after I get rid of the one I have. Numberous dpfs, turbos, an engine and egr issues. It's currently in West Virginia with the dealer going on two weeks of trying to diagnose why it's burning oil less than 20k after a new engine. 6.4 FTW that is all

Any of yall have a bad surge around 1500 on the 6.7 Ford? Boss has one and i think its the turbo bout to ****

nv had any problems with mine either has over 70 thousand miles on it and still going strong

Ive heard alot of horror stories about the 6.4. Most people i talk to that own a 6.7 love them, although my uncle hated his, stayed in the shop more than it did on the rd. He traded it with 25k miles on it for a new dodge.

Im putting head gaskets on a 6.4 with 80k on it right now. Popped a gasket after turning to high on h&s plus big camper. Not good

Keep reading u will find ones on the 6.7. Local dealer putting turbos on a few already. They got a 2012 with 18k on it and its missing a piston already!

How safe u think the motor is with 570 hp? Any other motor safe on stock head bolts at 570 horse and 50+ lbs of boost? Exactly.

U ain't got get all upset since I said something bout headgaskets. I was just stating that don't hook ur camper and run high setting. I know what they hold and I know u can make more money working on them then any other brand cause they always need fixed. LOL

Personally I would only tow on the easy H&S tunes. you get the benefit of the factory shifting schedule. The H&S schedules are great for drag racing and work fine for daily driving empty. Buddy of mine tows on the 250 tune all the time. I wouldn't recommend it! LOL

I towed alot of miles with a 08 F-350 and a 10 F-450 on the 300 and 310 spartan tunes but I knew what I was doing and never had a problem. But, theres people that can tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet lol
