BANKS!!!!!! Build the masses a Sledpuller!!!

Is there a big enough "draw" for BANKS to build a Sled puller?

What would happen if a few years down the road the EPA says: "No visible smoke on or off the track"

Would pulling rules change to allow nitous or would we just stop pulling diesels?


Thast not so far out of line Mike, with the nut cases controlling Washington right now. We may have to stop all motorsports, smoke or not.

I guess I would tell them the same thing Mr. Banks told us all years ago,"Learn how to turbocharge."

Cut the fuel back, drop the power down, no need for nitrous.

Using nitrous on a Diesel is a short cut to thinking.
 
the only class banks would be able to dominate in smokeless performance is work stock
 
the people who voted yes must not have been thinking enough about this...
if banks got into sled pulling here are the consequences:
1. possible rule changes
2. mom + pop pulling trucks wouldn't be able to compete above work stock class
3. banks would bash all the sled pullers now too

and if those reasons aren't good enough how about this one...
banks doesn't want anything to do with redneck sledpulling!!!
 
No, I believe they dont use CNG....But 9lbs of NO2 per pass is quite a LOT!!!!!!

FWIW, that recent video on Jay Leno's Garage GB says they use 6-7lbs of nitrous per run including staging.

IMHO as a lowly spectator, H2O and Nitrous are both crutches..... its just that Nitrous is a more effective crutch. just my 2cents

I think a race between the Banks rail w/o nitrous and Scheid rail w/o water would be an interesting race. Now that would be a thinking man's race ;)

Personally I think the main reason we will never see Banks at truck pulls is there is no world record to be had.

additionally, as mentioned before..... no nitrous & not his target market.

A geo metro could proably beat banks truck in th 1/4 miles with no NOS

Back when Pat tested the Banks Sixgun LLY in 2005, it ran 14.0 in a Crewcab long bed 3500 SRW. That's about the same ET Motor Trend got out of the Mustang GT. It could have towed a Metro through the traps faster than it could go under it's own power. A Metro will run about 18 seconds with a good tailwind.

I would imagine their drag truck would go about 9.5 without nitrous, but that's just a guess based on weight and the size turbos they are using.

The Banks team has a good batting average with their race efforts, so I would imagine that they would put on a good showing with a sled pulling truck, but no matter what they do, it will never change the opinions of the haters. Much like Banks is in the performance industry, those individuals are in the Hate Business. They do it to survive. If it wasn't Banks, they would just hate others. The haters are a minority, but they are the loudest voice here.

I think everyone in this thread is kidding themselves if they don't believe Gale can race without nitrous. Banks was turbocharging cars, trucks, and RV's before many of the readers here were even born.

If Banks builds a smoke free pulling truck it will go through pistons like Courtny love does syringes.

It isn't a gas engine, roachie. It really is #2 pump diesel w/ a grip of N2O. There is no CNG. When I worked there, there was talk of an N2O "push" system since we were having problems keeping adequate N2O pressures during the course of the run. But I haven't worked there since that would have happened, so...?

I can't believe the CNG topic still comes up!

I think the wastegates look really neato, killer set of wicked cool wastegates. I really like them, hence i like to show others the cool wild sweet wastegates. I want to get a hold of some bad as$ wastegates like those some day and make some wicked cool fuel efficent horsepower. Do you know where i can get some wastegates like that?

Heh.. not sure, ask Big Thumper or sleepur606. But if you look *real* close at any pictures of the S-10 at any race, they don't use your 'wicked cool wild sweet bad as$' wastegates.

I'm not refering to CNG. The short explanation for that post is I believe that if they were to force the amount of fuel nessasery to make enough HP to compete in SS or Mod the the heat created wouldnt have an escape route with the unburnt fuel like the smokers.

Did they ever resolve that issue with the s10 eating pistons?

Two CP3 pumps fixed the volume problem (pistons eating due to high EGTs because of high duty cycle). More fuel volume = less injector duty cycle required.
 
I don't agree with all the hatin' on NOS on a pulling track - and it's totally a technical perspective here.

Heck, a turbo does the same thing as NOS, adds air/increases density. Ask the NA gasser guys we pull against some times, and that's what they say. Turbo is a crutch compared to them!

If the NOS was everywhere, we would all learn to use it. The cost involved is minimal compared to some trick-chit turbo that people pay stupid money for, to, guess what, get more air in the cylinder.

I dunno, the anti-NOS sentiment in pulling seems to have come from a bunch of old geezers and somehow we all buy into it. Why?

I don't buy it. It makes no sense to me. All this stuff does the same thing. So who gives a crap one way or the other.
