big popping problem!!

BigPapa, I was not suggesting that he jumped teeth on his pump gear. I was trying to make a point that if he was trying to set timing by using the keyed gear, the only way is to jump a tooth or so and that one tooth was a big change in timing.

If the truck idles smooth right now I would use a timing light to see where its at now. It will most likely have to be changed but atleast you know where it sits before you change it.
 
The timing light we used uses a sensor that clamps to the #1 fuel tube. A mark had to be made on the damper for the TDC. The light is powered by the truck batteries. When the truck is idling smooth and everything is hooked up point the light on the damper and it will read the timing
