Building a 24v p-pump motor without selling a kidney

I heard about that fiasco...

I really cant wait til this winter to start the motor build, and all the stuff to go with it. I wanna clean the engine bay and polish/paint a bunch of stuff to keep it all clean.

its like christmas for me...i wont even touch these parts til next winter but im stoked

Pittsburgh Crank Can Line Bore The Mains And Line Bore The Cam If U Need Cam Bearings Put In. They Can Hone The Cylinders And Deck The Block Or Head. I Think They Also Can Do The Balancing Of The Crank And The Rods And Pistons.

I forgot about them. I think I called and spoke to Bob about some crankshaft work awhile back. That's good to know.

To build a really competitive setup you might as well spend 5K on the head.

Here's what we used.

Most folks have probably seen this one before.

Stock SO pistons with 10 thou off the top and relieved 100 with tops and sides coated.

Rods.

They were absolutely gorgeous. Hope that helps TJ.

Any bowl work on the piston to allow for more timing? I need to find someone who can shave my stockers, open the bowl, then flycut them.

If you guys are looking still looking for a machine shop in MD, I have had great luck with mine. I have not had him do any diesel work but he has done some great work on some big blocks and heads for me. Call Kevin at The Best Little Machine Shop 410-437-0669 in Pasadena on Mountain Rd. Tell him Tyson with the Scarab sent ya.

No bowl work at all. I run different tubes, thinner washers and a down angle injector which put everything just about right at 32-34 degrees. Your truck 5 or 6 speed?

I know Haisleys has a couple cnc programs for bowl work but Patty never sent me the pics/specs so that's all I know. I'm in the same boat, wondering to open them up or not. Definately gonna shave them to run a bigger cam.

If you are going through the effort, why use a stock piston?

1. Cost-I can use the ones in my motor now, or purchase a used set fairly cheap.
2. Never heard of anyone that makes a special piston for P-pump 24v with wider bowl. If they do, I imagine the cost is quite high.
3. Going on advice I've gotten here from folks who have more knowledge on the subject than myself. (ie: Competition Diesel.Com - Bringing The BEST Together - View Single Post - Redneck Porn )

I've never built a motor before, I am trying to find out what works without spending a small fortune.
