Bullet Proof Drive Line....

Many of the Gassers are running the 203-205 T-cases.. They also make aftermarket gears for those cases.. (nice thing is its a gear to gear case) The reduction is not as much as the 241/271 cases, so you may have to run different gears at the Diffs..
We are going to be using the same setup..

what sort of hp and torque are you making? you also seem to be single wheel wich makes a difference.

however talk to any of the top 2.8 guys weve all been fighting this all year every truck in our club i think has gotted one as well as most of the itpa guys and its not an issue of being setup wrong.

Our 2.8 truck is still running the factory 3.54 dana 80 with a welded lsd carrier and 1.5 missing teeth.. LOL

The "gear to gear" is one of the thing that make the 205 weak, the gears climb on each other and split the case! The other is the rear out put bearing/seal housing, it won't hold and the rear out put gets shoved out. Then ya get that fixed and the rear out put twist off at the oil groove! Now if ya run LOW gearing in the diff's, Like 6:20 or 7:20 then the 205 holds pretty well. But if your running 4:10's or so, and your truck hooks well...the old 205 will let ya down!!!

Seems that the 241 HD's and 271's are much stronger cause the chain holds the t-case together...that's my thoughts anyway!

I'm sure we'll split the 205 case in time... (after we get the rest of the drive line to stay together.. ) I just wish the ratio was lower in it.. (I think you can go a little lower.. but not much)
When it splits we'll have to go to a pro-fab setup... or find some the else with the right side drive front... (or change the axles too..)
I'm sure the lower torque on the gassers, is allowing them to live a little longer..
Thanks,
Bryan

I broke all my 205's with a gasser...with street tires.

:bang thanks for the input!

don't be a smartass.. i was just stating fact.. Oh, i left out that the truck i mentioned was also the top 2.8 nadm truck last year... A dana 80 is plenty strong for what it is.. just has a few weaknesses, but it is the strongest rear ever put in a light duty truck, that's for certain....

I wouldn't be so sure, the 11.50 AAM looks to have lots of potential.

i agree, but the tubes seem to be weak and there isn't too many aftermarket options for them yet... time will tell...

Only the Dodge versions seem to have tube issues. After seeing them side by side apart I will take the AAM everytime. What kind of aftermarket parts are the missing? ARB has an air locker out now. Full spools and 39 Spline axles have been out for over a year. Gears are avalible. 1480 yokes are out there. What else do you need?

What is the difference between the dodge and gm versions they look the same for the most part

I need it to be unbreakable. LOL
With Spool and Shafts from Tony Burkhard and gears and setup by Mark at Greeensburg machine your going to have a very tough time hurting it.

johnboy would'nt you have to say a d80 is plenty strong look at wilkins and lornez and i we still have d80 no problems there.
I did not say the D80 was a turd.:hehe:
It is very strong. I just like some things about the AAM better.
