I pulled Saturday night, and thought I was doing pretty good till around the 290' mark... then this happened.

Basically the little bit of wheel hop at the end with all the sled weight on my tail helped the driverside axleshaft to TRY and twist at the outboard end... then she snapped and took out the hub. My question is, which D80 shafts should I replace with? I can get new stock shafts for a little over $100 each, Yukon Golds for $175 each, SCS for $850 a set or go with a full floater set for anywhere from $1300 to $1700(which are out of the question at the current time). Does anyone out there have any other options? I have heard good and bad about the Yukons, though everyone seems to agree they are stronger... though too hard to give and tend to shatter. I could go with another set of stockers, the current ones lasted 4 years of pulling. Whats everyone think? I do want to upgrade, but with a baby on the way I need to count my pennies...

I pulled on my stock axles till just recently when I twisted the driver side axle shaft. I went ahead and upgraded to the 35spline SCS axles. They are a really nice piece, but they are definitely more $$$. I guess it depends on what you plan on doing with the truck. If you plan to keep on pullin regularly and maybe add more power, i would say definitely go ahead and get the SCS axles.

Move up to the 37 spline alloy steel axles Haisley's or Schied's carry them.

They sell the spools as well

if any of you are interested i have a aam 11.5 rear for sale would give you disc breaks in the rear as well.

That would definitely be a stronger set up, but probably quite a bit more money than he wants to spend. The SCS axles are cheaper than the ones haisley sells, and are just as good or better IMO.

I think the SCS are a 4340 or 4140, the haisley are 300M I would give the nod to the haisley axles.

Not tryin to put the haisley axles down, just from what ive seen with local pullers the SCS axles seem to hold up the best, and seem to be the best bang for your buck. One of my friends twisted a 37spline haisley axle clean in two. His truck is stout but not anything crazy

Ive heard no Yukons. Heard no problems out of the SCS axles. Whats the damage on axles from Scheid/Haisley axles? And are 37 splines really necessary? Given the mods on JFlaggs truck. To what point is a 37 spline necessary?

BigBadDodge #1 had them and he had 800+hp running a tripple disc clutch and cut boggers for tires.

Your are both wrong

Elablorate please. I know my 35 spline haisley axles came from CTM. This was 2 years ago. I had talked to CTM after I purchased them and they were made by CTM. That being said Haisley was getting some of the axles for the rockwells from a place a little ways south. Those were not 300M.
Haisleys dont recommend the 35 splines anymore, as other than the cost of the carrier the axle prices were the same, and your not really gonna be able to run a D80 posi back there anyway unless you weld it up, as the spider gears won't last forever.

Now that haisley is selling spools now and maybe they are getting the axles from the same place. I think a place in michigan is making the spools.

Well I stand corrected. My CTM axles have performed flawlessly.

So lets hear about the new axles, material, etc, pics??
