Busted my 80, axle shaft opinions?

My 39 spline "bullet proof axles" do have a warranty and we do stock some back up shafts. And with the increase in price of steal they now are $2295 for a spool and shaft set. Hope the price of steal dont follow the price of fuel.

The price of steel is not going to get better. I work with steel everyday. The speciality steels are the worst hit. The steels you use are speciality.

Thanks for the update on the warranty. As I posted earlier I am no longer in the market.

Any verdict on how bad the boom was?

Not yet Dan. It was raining real bad when I got home so I left it on the trailer. We just pulled it off the trailer and parked it in front of the garage. Right know my guess is spun rod bearing or broken crank. I need to get the garage cleaned up some before I tear into it..

The good news is the turbo worked great.:st:

Most anyone who says Moser axles are no good are selling axles. There is no margin in a pair of axles that anyone can call the manufacturer and order themselves for $300. I have repeatedly broke stock dodge, ford, and gm axles and replace with moser and never broke again. But then again I'm not selling anything. I know they can be broke but it will be a toss up between axles or ring and pinions breaking with Mosers.

So...is there an axle option thats better than stock and under $500 a set? From the sounds of it Yukons aren't worth a damn and I'd hate to put a set of stockers in there again and bust 'em a second time.

Out of curiousity I went to the Moser site and they don't advertise anything for the 80, I assume thats a special order item? Also, I was playing around with their tq. calculator to figure out which axles I should use and ACCORDING TO THEM, my measly 900+ lbs of tq would more than easily break their 40 spline shafts... thats kind of embarrassing on their part, don't you think?

If you have broken all these shafts wouldn't it make sense to buy one good set and be done. If you break 4 sets of shafts you could have paid for one set of good ones. JMO

Mosers may be working out great for you, they have worked for me in the past in various applications and I have nothing against them. In some applications stronger axles are needed. I would have to say that the guys running these big axles in an attempt to put their power to the ground are some of the stronger trucks in the country. I have no idea about your truck and maybe your holding 1000HP+ as some of the trucks talking about these axles are.

I did buy a good set for me I bought mosers. For the record I have broken stock and yukons but of the 7 sets of mosers I've had I've never broken one. I know there are people with more hp than me and some situations they won't work but the person who started this thread would be very happy with them.

The guy who started this thread just broke a stock axle so I doubt he is a 1000 hp. I know they won't work for everyone but I'd bet from experience they will work for him at the power level he is at. And also most people who buy the expensive axles for their pulling trucks are more like 500 hp. Hardly anyone has a 1000 hp truck but alot of people think they do.

I heard some info the other day to support the mosers are holding up. Like I said when I was shopping years ago several people said they had tried mosers and they were not holding up, one person said they had better luck cryoing the stockers. When I was shopping moser would not warranty the axles for truck pulling, but were warranty the other apps. Makes you wander. Maybe they have changed the material/processes.

Their calculators are for drag racing cars, not applicable for what we are doing with diesels. To order them you just give them the measurements or your axle and they will make them. They are full float axles that they machine for you application. The only problem i've had with them is they want to bevel the inside of the mounting bolt holes making it neccesary for a good amount of silicone to seal them. They didn't do that in the past but the last 4 sets i've got I have been fighting trying to get them to not do it.

I've still got the set I bought in August of 2002 for my Duramax and I know I'm not the highest hp around but have used plenty of n20 and they have never broke or any set I have bought since. I've used them in 11.5 aam's, dana 80s, and sterling 10.25's and had broke all the stockers and some several times but never broke a moser after putting them in. I realize there's a lot of cheerleaders for stuff they personally know nothing about but this is what I have actually done. And like zstroken said they do not warranty axles for what we do but hardly anything we do is.

Moser has changed there axle making process on dana 80's I know this for a fact, when i got axles for my z28 there in winter i had a chat with them on Dana 80 axles

Yeah, last time I dynoed I was at 436hp and 981tq. I wonder how much that went up after trying the 7x12's? over the little 60hp ebay injectors? I sent Moser an email today, but I'll call them tomorrow. I think I am leaning that way. $3-400 is in my price range. I did find a 37 spline ARB for sale I might get if the price stays low enough, if so I'll go to the 37 spline over the 35. I think the hardest thing on my axles is the fact I pull with 3.55's and 35" tires. Since I don't hwy. so much anymore I'm tempted to go to 4.10's...

Tony, what are the details on the warranty? Thanks.
