Busted my 80, axle shaft opinions?

What fun is that?:hehe:

I have seen some really nice parts but nothing to back them up.
I am not afraid to spend my money but I need some peice of mind when throwing down that kind a coin.

Oh you made it sound like you inquired about some particular parts that had no backing behind them.

Who does back there axles? You find me a manufacturer that will warranty my axles after I break them on the track.

I do! PM Tony Burkhard he'll be more than happy to fill you in along with a sales pitch.

John, What do you consider an axles life to be when used in these situations? How long does your turbo last? Your clutch? U-joints? Tires? Obviously these things are all running in a severe environment. Moving up to a better axle design and material will get more life than stock replacements. I dont believe any axle is a one time purchase and considering the job it does it probably never will be. Now if you have realistic expectations of what an axle should hold then I believe we have an axle for you.

I can get a set of stocker axles for $250. If a custom set costs $1200, I would expect a life span of at least 5 times longer.

Not a good comparison, if forged pistons cost more, should they last longer?
Sometimes a stronger metal won't handle the fatigue.

Also when you start blowing stock axles and it damages the carrier, or destroys the housing, are you money ahead staying with 5 sets of stock axles and 5 carriers?

Call Moser and spend $315 bucks and end your problem. Yukons are not as strong as stock. If your stock axle lasted a while and you not immediately planning other mods the Moser axles will not give you any problem. I've had 80s and 11.5 rears that would consistently break axles and put Mosers in and never break it again. If the stockers broke every 5 to 10 hooks then yukons would break every 1 or 2 hooks. You already stated that the expensive ones are out of the question and I believe most people are wasting there money with those anyway, too expensive and yes I've seen more than one set of those break also.

I know several people who ran the mosers and said they were worse than stock. Of course this was 4 years ago or so. Haisleys tried to run the mosers and had terrible luck with them.

I know of a few that have recently tried the mosers with the same luck.

hope i didnt screw up by puttin in a true-trac in the rear... but i still gotta drive the truck on the street till the end of this pullin season:bang then im startin on the 12 valve:evil

Yukons are definitely weaker than stock.

The newer Haisley axles look different than the picture on their web site, the end cap is polished. Maybe I'll snap a pic later.

To answer your 1st question, Yes, otherwise what is the point?

An aftermarket axle could break and damage any part of the rear end just as well as the stockers could.

Burkhard, has reported some pretty good results on the 39 spliners over at DP, so that is some good news.

I have five solid hooks on my 39 spline axles. They show no twist at all, even with the added power it has over last year. Last year was not a good year for axle shafts for me.

Does not really matter after today. I need the money for some new engine parts as mine went Boom! today. Well more like knock, knock, knock, knock.:bang

I would hope they would last a season.$.02

I hear about these "bullet proof axles". Well that sounds great but I aint shotting at them. When I talked to one of the vendor for the BFAs I asked what if I break one pulling? Is there a warranty? Do you stock back up axles? The answer I got was no. If I switch to a spool and brake an axle I am screwed until I can get another axle made on my dime correct? Am I miss informed? I hope so because for $2000 some better stand behind them other than me.:bang

Using a mini spool like the SCS one will let you go back to stock if the needed.
My 39 spline "bullet proof axles" do have a warranty and we do stock some back up shafts. And with the increase in price of steal they now are $2295 for a spool and shaft set. Hope the price of steal dont follow the price of fuel.
