Is it me or what's the thought process on heating the bends or have they? Or were the areas cleaned with scotch brite for welding purposes?

I noticed the discoloration too but hadn't thought much about it, I am not a chassis builder but the quality of this is miles above their original chassis!

I do know that mill scale will flake off of bent pipe. Giving the appearance of heated pipe at times. But i cannot say that this is one way or the other.

Oh don't get me wrong not doubting the skill of the fabrication. Just curious is all. However I focused in on some of the pictures closely and the only reason I asked was because of the three or four distinct discoloration of some of the bent pipes. Especially the drivers cage. If the mill scale on the pipe would flake that bad then I would question the quality of the metal.

More than likely it’s from the heat of the welds burning off the protectant around the welds, and from hand prints. I noticed the exact same thing on any car setting on the jig. This all goes away when you acid clean , or soda blast the chassis before power coating.
Nice looking car, what transmission is that under the cover, looks like a sequenceal .
The weekend of the 21 there is a great event that Diesel Power and 8 lug are putting on 4 hours away in Tulsa. David Kennedy the editor of Hot Rod Magazine will be there as well.

Protectant? So how do you explain the first picture wih all the gussets installed and little or no heat transfer. And any skilled fab guy would never weld over "Protectant."

Every chassis I have ever seen has it on it untill powered coat . Its designed to stay on , but once its gone, the CM will get rust on it .

So your telling me that this chassis is CM? If so it has the wrong weld process.

If its MS. Then your dead in the water on a Sfi cert. Why all the hard word and not do it in cm

They said the mild steel was all they could get readily, so they are shooting for a 25.4 SFI cert (which can be mild steel). DirtyMax, the ATP El Camino and the CT Performance truck are mild steel and certed to that spec (7.50 & slower).

This is correct.

for those asking about the trans it is an air shifted Xtreme 5 spd from Liberty Transmission. I believe it to be clutchless.

I noticed the Liberty early on . whose bell housing is that . I know Browell makes an aluminum SFI one. I have never seen that one. I have never liked the liberty air shifter, Use it a lot on dragsters , and it will let you down if you don't keep on top of it. I would put a good shifter in there , and hand shift it . A lot more fun.

Checking on the bell housing.

I'll be ordering the SFI roll bar padding this week along with the engine diaper and trans blanket :rockwoot:

A lot of those MIG welds in the first string of pictures look cold.

if its not SFI , you could be dead in the water as well. Browell makes a great can out of aluminum. Trick Titaninum makes one as well. noticed the mid plate , could be a easy fix. how thick is your can depth.

I'll get dimensions from them also.

a 13hr time difference creates a bit of a delay in question-response time.

Thanks again to those of you who have been helpful with your guidance, I appreciate it and know the Thai guys do too!!

They did a little testing a few days ago.
