DHRA 2.5 Lets hear it

Exhibition with a 2.5??? Why???

because all the trucks we normally pull with around us pulled workstock but our 2.5 s300 was not legal, and when we drug her out the dmax guys protested. it is legal in everyother organization, and we wanted to compete with the same trucks we all ways compete with not roller motor 900hp bushed 2.8 trucks

well prolly go street next year. also why wouldn't a 2.5 s400 be legal it will pass the plug?

the dhra rules ive seen say stock apearing. the techs were letting truck with hx40's pull. could I have used an hx50? it looks stock, kinda:doh:

I say drop the work stock name, limited street or something of that nature, 2.6 no bushing, 4500rpm limit, no water/meth, 150lb max wieght no further forward than 48" from front axel centerline.

Work Stock class was designed to bring in the guys off the street. It was also a class that they would be able to be somewhat competitive in.

Unfortunately all of this has changed. Often you hear "we BUILT this truck to run in work stock". Work Stock was not meant to have full built motor's and full built street chassis' in their class. But thats how its ended up.

Once again it seems like everyone wants a class to fit their needs/truck. I can't blame them though because I feel the same way. Most have set their trucks up to run a certain way.

Back to the subject at hand though:

2.6" (to allow for 66mm turbo)NO BUSHING (shooting myself in the foot!), Must bolt to stock manifold (ie T3 foot)
4500rpm
Dual pumps aloud.
Stock driveline.
1" travel, traction bars aloud
Rear hitching point must be beyond rear of truck.
Hanging weights aloud not to stretch beyond 60" of center axle line.
No water or drugs (obviously)
Basically old street with 2.6" no bush.

Why put limits on the amount of hanging weight? A weight bracket is a weight bracket. Hang 100 or hang 1000. By limiting the amount of hanging weight just means people will stick ballast somewhere else. Do we have to have the amount of weight certified. I could get two 75lb appearing cast weights that are actually lead.

2.6 bushing allowed.adaptor plates allowed,4500 rpm,No hanging weight....,no blocked solid rears,no water drugs etc etc,no under hitches,

gene i don't think anyone would really care if you left it at 2.8, BUT dont allow bushings and the real big complaint i always had was when i had my truck is that i always wanted to pull at indy and scheids but i knew there was no way i could compete in the 2.8 class with my s300 and i didn't want to buy 2 turbos. 2.6 sounds good all 3 brands can run a different turbo, BUT for a 2.6 to work you better get ahold of EEP and talk them into changing there rules or were gonna have the same problem. as far as hanging weights, keep it a 7500lb class and alllow weights the guys who dont want weights mst have long bed crew cabs, if you pull a swb truck you need weights or you will have a huge disadvantage. Before DHRA and all of the other groups came along i was talking to one of the engine builders and they said "no one can agree on a set of rules there are too many chiefs and not enough indians"

Agree there are at least 3 pulling leages in Ky for next year that will use a 2.5 no bush rule it would make it alot easier for you guys to come here and us do the same

7500lbs?!?!?!? Most trucks that pull in workstock can barely make under 8000lbs. That rule would eliminate alot of trucks from competing, just because thier trucks arent light enough.

fltecher- your involved in this thread because....ur a sledpuller? i'd love to see you sled pull with that turd in your avatar...

i'd also like to see the nerda sled pulling rules for the various classes, and how they compare to the DHRA rules, since nerda seems to have it figured out.

enlighten me to how the payouts of the nerda sledpulling events have worked out.

I dont have a problem with a 2.6 rule, but pretty much every other organization has already gone with the 2.5 rule for the stock class. I personally think that the Stanford rules are perfect, except instead of 8500 make it 8000. Here are the rules for the stock class....

1. Must be licensed, registered, and insured (Bring CURRENT registration and insurance with you to register)

2. Single Turbo charger only. Must bolt directly to manifold , NO adapter plates. The compressor housing may be no larger than a 2.5 inch ROUND inlet measured at the smallest diameter area of the compressor wheel. Downsizing of the compressor housing ahead of the wheel is NOT allowed but must meet the 2.5 inch diameter for at least 3/4 inch in front of the wheel along the bore. The inlet will be measured using a 2.55 inch plug. A stock MWE groove is allowed. No MWE groove will be allowed that has greater than a 1/4 inch width. All provisions allowing air to the wheel other than the bore and the MWE groove are prohibited. . 2007 FORD POWERSTROKE 6.4 ENGINES WITH FACTORY TWIN TURBOS WILL BE PERMITTED IN THIS CLASS

3. All Computer chips and boxes are permitted
4. Stock appearing injection pump LIMITED TO ONE .
5. No Nitrous, Propane or Water Injection- All Bottles Must Be Removed
(a) Pullers will declare upon being teched if their truck has any equipment capable of delivering NITROUS OXIDE and\or PROPANE.
( Upon the pullers declariation of having this equipment the PULLER will make the bottle end of the line to the delivery selinoid available to the techs for a visible inspection, to insure that it is not capable at the time of pulling to deliver NITROUS OXIDE or PROPANE
© Upon inspection of the truck and the above mentioned equipment is found , and the PULLER failed to declare his TRUCK possesed this equipment, the PULLER and TRUCK will be immediately disqualified , not allowed to pull and will forfiet all entry fees paid.
6. There will be under hood inspections
7. Original style front and rear suspension. Lowering or raising vehicle height with suspension modifications is permitted. No Strapping or Chaining of Front or Rear Suspension. CENTER LINK may be srapped .
Rear Suspension may be blocked. NO SOLID WELDED REARENDS
8. Air Bags permitted, must have only 1 airline running to them and line must be capped off, no air tanks, compressors or in cab controls.
9. Tractions Bars must have a safety loop or strap securely attached to frame & bars near where bars attach to frame of truck.
10. Front Hanging Weights are allowed, NOT to exceed 60 inches forward of the center of the front axle. THIS WILL BE MEASURED FROM CENTER OF FRONT WHEELS TO FURTHEREST MOST POINT OF THE WEIGHTS OR WEIGHT RACK . NO Weights in cab of truck.
11. Factory or commercially distributed aftermarket hitch. Must be horizontal to the ground and stationary in all directions. Height from ground must not exceed 26 “. Minimum 3 1/2-inch diameter for sled hook. (NO UNDER BED PULLING HITCHES)
12. Hook point must be past rear of truck bed.
13. NO hitches with chains holding it to a gooseneck ball or other device in truck bed.
14. Truck must have both front and rear bumper.
15. Driver must provide clevis, minimum 3 ½ “diameter.
16. No weight transfer hitches.
17. No chains, studs, spikes, etc.
18. D.O.T. Street legal tires.
19. Engine must have come stock from the factory in a 1-ton pickup truck or less application. Engine does have be an option by the same manufacturer as truck.
20. Drivetrain must be O.E.M. from 1 ton or less pickup. (I.E. NO DROP BOXES OR REVERSERS)
21. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT ALL TRUCKS HAVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT (FUEL SHUT OFFS, KILL SWITCHES, SCATTER BLANKETS, DRIVE LINE LOOPS, FIRE EXTIGUSHER, ETC.)

those are the rules EEP came up with, i agree 8000lbs would be fair, 8500 is ridiculous. i had 10 100lb weights hanging on the front of my quad cab short bed dodge and only weighed in at 7800lbs

Thats as good as it gets in my opinion EXCEPT the "no adaptor plate" rule. That rule eliminates the Duramax trucks from upgrading chargers in the class because a seperate pedistal is required when going to an aftermarket charger on the Duramax and the pedistal is considered an adaptor by those rules. ALL the rest is great though. ;)

I think the 2.6 class should be adapted. Aren't the late model Dmaxes already running a 2.5+ charger??

I think the inducer on the Dmax turbos are 2.59 but dont quote me on that. 2.6 would be fine but every other place that i know already has the 2.5 rule. I wish like heck that everybody would just adopt the SAME set of rules so you aint gotta worry if youll be legal or not if you go to a different pull.

On the 04.5+ Duramax, yes. On the 01-04, no. Either way, its the ability to upgrade to a better performing charger than the factory provides that is the key.

I like the 2.5" rule mostly because a lot of pulls and other sanctioning bodies are already using it. It also is a power limiter. Plain and simple, the bigger the inducer, the bigger the power is gonna be able to be, the more expensive it'll be to be competitive and the less entry-level the class will be.

drop the Street Class to 2.6" no bushings but allow T4 turbine housings. Add a 3.0" no bushing class with water injection with restricted drivetrain.

How about any automotive transmission/transfer case?( meaning, no drop box, no reverser)
