DHRA 2.5 Lets hear it

The idea behind a Work Stock class is to allow guys to pull with their trucks without spending big bucks or voiding their warranties.

Forgive McRat, hes a west coast drag racer that secretly would rather be pulling, he means well and is a tough competitor!!!

Hey guys, I would like to say, this is a fantastic thread, with just the info we were looking for.
We have several states represented here, good pullers from all.

Another 10 pages or so, and I think you guys will have a compromise worked out, and a class that is agreed on -until first hook, anyway.

Let me ask a serious question, what is a reasonable purse, and how many spots to pay back, at a small pull, say 2000 spectators, and 40 trucks in a 2.5 class?

As for the stock turbo VS 2.5 rule, it doesent matter to me a lot, but that makes all the 2.5 guys, except the D-max's jump to the 2.8 class. I personally think the 2.5 class is about right. Otherwise the D-Max's have a pretty big advantage seeing as their stock charger is bigger than an hx40! Believe me, the people winning will have voided their warranties one way or the other no matter what the turbo is. Honestly it would be nice to have a class the powerstrokes could possibly be competitive in, so if we could let them run a pretty standard bigger charger, id be up for it. I still think the 2.5 class is the best way to go for all out fairness, and having trucks that are actually driven on the street everyday in the pull. Something someone might go hook to the goosneck Monday morning, and head out to work with. And I also say hanging weights should be allowed along with blocks with 1 inch of travel. On basically any of the newer trucks, frame modifications(welding, drilling, etc) arent necesarry to put a weight rack on, so i think it would be nice to allow it. Otherwise like with my truck, If I put 2k lbs of weight in the bed, and then build blocks with 1 inch of travel, it is already gonna be squatting pretty good before the blocks even get bottomed out. Where if I could hang as much as i wanted, then I could put 1k or so up front. And traction bars should be allowed no matter what class of trucks it is. They just help to keep stuff from breaking! Overall i think work stock has been a great class in the past, and everyone is always gonna have different views on it.

I disagree.

2.5 no bushings or any charger that came stock on that generation of truck. (ie LLY Duramax and 6.4 Ford factory twins legal.)
Adapters must be legal for the GM and Ford guys. Limit it to T4 or T3 foot.
Single CP3.
Stock driveline.
1" travel, traction bars aloud
Rear hitching point must be beyond rear of truck.
Hanging weights aloud not to stretch beyond 60" of center axle line.
No water or drugs.

If you go 2.6 and dual Cp3s you will need built engines to compete. With a 2.5 charger and one pump you should be comptitive with a stock long block. I have no trouble with P-pumps on 24v as I think it is not really an advantage if you run a real 2.5 turbo.

I agree with John

Yes, I have. I didn't pull Scheids this year cause I didn't feel my truck was running well enough to drag it the long haul. Leaving the rules how they are will take some coin to place in the top 10. My finishes have been like 16-24 the last two years, and I know what I have in my stuff, and have a pretty good idea what the top trucks are running. It is more than I want to tie up in a truck. Since I have moved out here the last 2 of the 3 pulls I have been to I have been hurt cause I have had too much power I am used to a good clay track that will make the tires bite. I had one recently that the tires were still squealing at the 150' mark. I will definately say running a local 2.8 class around here is a lot easier than running a 2.8 class in the Indiana/Michigan area.
A 2.6 class will be a 650-700 HP class.
The 2.8 expect 850-950 engine HP to be consistent in the top 10, maybe even more.

Sounds like you need to move to Missouri, we have some clay (by some I mean 8' deep any place you go). I feel your pain, when most of the hot trucks show up at the pulls with me I end up mid pack or less. Same for me to, I just can't afford to throw 10s of thousands of dollars at a weekend play truck.

It's really no skin off my nose since a LLY or LBZ can donate 100HP to a Dodge and still put buslengths on them. It's simply a more tractable platform with better gear spacing.

But you allow us 2.549" worth of custom charger on it and a single modified fuel pump? By next summer you will see well over 600rwhp in Work Stock. That's entry level?

I like the idea of the 2.5" class, I agree that it would be a more street truck friendly playing field also. Looking at it from a Duramax perspective to hop up to Street at this time it's going to take over $15k with what parts I have gathered up now. That's just for more parts (driveline & internals), not considering machine work and labor!

ZStroken lives in Missouri.

Well color me surprised. I thought he was out east. Most of the tracks I run have a lot of clay in them...

Last time I talked to him I thought he said he was in "misery"

He meant Missouri. :hehe: :hehe:

Whoops my mistake.

Yes he did. Finished 4th. Got me by 3' at Scheids last year.
He blew what two HX35s, one trans, and a head gasket. He ran real strong at Cynthannia last year also.

To go a whole season at that rate he need a six pack of turbos.:kick:
Holset sell them that way?:hehe: :hehe:

I was actaully bummed when I heard he got rid of the 06.

Brent Bolinger did well at Scheids last year in Qualifying but I think he broke to in the finals. Ended up 9th

He snuck over from Indiana a few months ago. ;)

More 2cents- If it's a true 'bring the farm truck Jethro, we're going pulling' class, make workstock a trophy-only class. That's all the workstock pullers want, right? Recognition and a chance for bragging rights amongst 'stock' buddies while having fun?

Payout the 2.5 class. Allow bushings. With excess fuel, a 2.5" vs. 2.6" dynos ~+25 rwhp. Bush the 2.6 and let the 66's roll.

I would like somewhere in between, mud and concrete. The first two pulls I pulled with in spring river were, mud, followed by concrete! Got my butt handed to me! SW MO doesn't have the best pulling dirt.

The truck that won Schieds 07 had a Hx35 with some tweaks and a VP , he went too Shelbyville after geeting another turbo witch he was told to b leagle witch it was by 2.5 but it didnt say holset as they say it needed , so he got bumped to street still got 8th place and broke his driveline

do not allow bushings or you will have every truck in the 2.8 class bushing there turbo to pull in both classes. i'm not sure why anyone is worried about a p-pumped 24v. gene just do EEP rules everyone here in ohio is happy with them. no rpm rule, except you must have a blanket over 4500rpm and no pump rules, who cares if a 24v has a p-pump or a duramax has twin cp3's. if you have ever seen a pull here in ohio there is a mix of brand and years in the top 5 and none of them i believe were 12v's

Pretty sure if you pull in one class you cant pull in the other, if not then there should be a rule.
