Duramax RPMS?

I am goin to step out on a lim here and say the really hot ones are running at least 4200-4800rpm under load. I believe that the year of the motor has a bit to do with it and all, something about the ecm not having the Processor size and speed to run everything up top in the earlier years? I know that the later ones have tables to at least 5000 in them, maybe more with the right guy at the computer, Just my thoughts :pop:

4800 ish with the LB7 (01-04) and LLY (04.5-06)

A tad over 5000 with the LBZ (06-07). This is where they went to the new 32 bit Bosch computer and dropped the FICM. Supposedly the processor is much faster, but I have yet to hear of anyone getting RPM anywhere near what a p-pumped CTD can do.

Fueling and injectors are still somewhat too small compared to what a p-pump can deliver at wicked rpms.

With a smaller stroke we have less of a time window to inject into as well.

There was a dmax at Scheid's this year that was SCREAMIN down the track... I don't remember what the name of the truck was though... it had dual stacks out the hood.... had a small fire under the hood at the end...

I would like to know what the R's where he was turnin, sounded like around 5k.

The Smokinya truck is running a Dmax this year. Thats the only chevy with two hood stacks that I remember.

Smokya HD is a billet block, head, sigma pump, Cummins engine with triples, Not a D max

Yeah I didn't think he could do what I've heard he's been doing, with a Dmax.

Either way, with a billet block and head, it's hard to even call it a Cummins....maybe "an engine designed like a Cummins".

Not hating or anything but once you go that far, it's a big XYZ motor IMO.

can't remember what truck it was, but it sure sounded like a v-8.

I think it was the last truck to pull saturday night. Memory is a lil hazy from that point from maybe a lil bit of beer.... ;) Had a small fire under the hood and they wouldn't (or couldn't) open the hood to put it out.

From the YouTube video, I would agree, it had its own unique sound, but not one I could readily ID.

So is it a billet V or I engine? Anyone know for sure?

I bet Evan Davis knows.

She's Defintely a 6 in a row, billet head (could,t see under the new common Valve cover to see if it was a 12 or 24) ( if I remember from Sat afternoon's little look see in the pits) Crazy header system leading to 3 chargers all stacked together at the Front of the engine. But your right, can't really call it a Cummins, but close enough to fit in the rules I guess.

Highest Dmax R's I heard was from Troy Wakeman.
