ok i have done alot of diffent thingsto try and narrow down whats up.... ok i checked fuel pressure and it is 20psi and idle and 14 psi at WOT .the truck dont miss sputter nothen runs like new... but when i get in to start truck every time the truck roles over like 15 times before it fires up and some times the truck with just fire right up ... i have been told it could be cam posi, sensor.. how do i know what or how to check them

It's most likely related to 20 psi at idle. Put the LP on a toggle switch that can be toggled off while cranking and see if it start easier.

I have also seen where the fuel shutoff solenoid will get weak. When you crank and crank, finally the solenoid will move and will allow the pump to send fuel to the injectors.

I have had that same issue on a couple of trucks and I found that the T fitting in the return line was just loose enough to draw air into the system. The fitting is located at the back driver side corner of the head. I hope your problem is that simple of a fix. Good luck.

Same thing here put a momentary switch in to kill the fass while cranking. It starts right up.

This problem is 24V/VP-44 related.

Yes sir that is what I am talking about. Look at the driver side rear corner of the head and there is a T fitting compression fitting. It comes from the back of the head and fuel filter housing and returns to the tank. Those fittings will get slightly loose over time and cause this same problem. It more than likely will only take a turn or two to tighten them up. Look at it and give it a try. it can't hurt anything.

Yeah, I know, I had a VP44 injection pump do this. I had the momentary shutoff to the fass and all that. Turned out being a weak solenoid inside the pump. Bought a new pump and works fine. The original pump had 160,000 on it, so no love lost.

Well, I am having this same problem. Only with mine it does it every time. Hot or cold it doesnt matter. I have to crank the crap out of it for it to start. Everything was fine until my truck sat for 6 months. My connector tube tips had little ridges on them. I replaced them all with new stock tubes. It didnt fix the problem. Im gonna replace the overflow valve next. My vp44 only has about 5000 miles on it.

Ok, so hopefully we can count out a fuel solenoid issue with a pump that new.

If you are controlling a FASS or any other after market fuel pump using a relay controlled by the factory wire from the ECM, you should be fine. But if you hard wire a pump to hot so the pump runs with the key one, I've heard numerous stories of hard starts. The ECM should barely bump the pump then go off again until the truck starts. Turn your key from OFF to ON and have someone tell you how long the pump runs before it shuts off or if it still runs while cranking (if you can't hear it from the driver's seat). From what I've been told from a reputable VP44 rebuilder, 20 psi is too much for a VP44. Knock it down to 15 if you can and maybe you'll have even better luck.

My lift pump makes 14 psi and doesn't run while cranking the starter. Just for the heck of it I unplugged it anyways. It had no affect on my issue.

Is there a check valve at the inlet of the VP with the after mafket fuel system? If so make shure that it is good. Kind of sounds like it is losing prime.

Is there anyway to kill a fas or airdog while cranking other than put it on a flip switch an the way to do that is to use the wires off the harness that plug um where the stock lp pluged into ones po an ones neg right

Had that issue as well. Turns out the starter was getting weak

Hook it up to a keyed 12v or an oil psi switch.

I have two blue top Optima marine batteries in my truck. They really rip that engine over when cranking

My new over flow valve came in today from snedge. Im going to install this in the morning and see what happens.

same problem here. i hooked the fass up to the factory harness tonight we'll see if it helps tomorrow.

Well no change with a new over flow valve. Im running out of ideas. Return line on the back of the head maybe?
