Hellmann tank sump

You guys running these, any problems sucking debris from the bottom of the tank? I havent dropped my tank yet and seen if any crud was in there, so it may not even be a problem. First post looks like the tanks really pretty clean

Couldn't the same thing be for a lot less money and effort with a good bulkhead fitting and some washers?

problem with just a bulkhead fitting is when you get below about a quarter tank the fuel sloshes away from the pickup and you suck air into the system. with a sump, especially with a baffle at the top, you stand more of a chance of keeping the pickup primed.

I have gotten my tank down to 5 gallons without sucking air. Just a -10an bulkhead fitting.
Beats the 1/4 tank pickup problems.
Eventually I will order one of Hellmanns sumps.
I did my bulkhead on a SAT. and the next Mon or Tues. he posted them:bang

Drilling the holes. Drill the first hole and install the bolt. Move around the continuing to drill holes and install bolts. This will insure all the holes are exact for a perfect fitment:

Installing my barbed fitting for my fuel line. Use lock-tite to ensure no leaks. This is better than using teflon tape etc.:

Looking thru from the top of the tank:

Cleaned the surface with purple power and used a little sealant along with the supplied seal since the Ford tanks are rigid and do not have a smooth surface:

Ive spoke to a few FASS/AirDog users that have them and it made there systems extremely quiet. They said any noise they had at all from the units were now gone after installing this. Great work Joe!!!

Those look sweet! Too bad I have spent my allowance already... along with my next 5 years worth of allowance LOL. By the way, how big is that thing?

Great photos guys! Joe gave me a helluva deal on mine (as with you all, I'm sure). He also powdercoated it too! Black!!!

Now, need to get some fittings, find me hole saw....and store 40 gallons of diesel somewhere....

around here the tweakers would have a field day with this. Cut the hose and fill the juggs.

Question-- how did you guys clean the shavings out of the tank?

What ever the excuses this is unarguably the most efficient way to deliver fuel to your beast.
Siphon tubes ? ..........give me a break.:hehe:

These things have plastic tanks for pete's sake. If you want the fuel all you need is a bucket and a screwdriver.

Well Joe was kind enough to add his sump to the winner prize last Friday at the local competition. :thankyou2:

Now if I could find time and energy to install it I am sure it will be close to 50hp.:woohoo: I might not need the :nos: to beat that Duramax next time. :hehe::hehe:

Maybe Joe could add installation next month. :poke: It would be easier to install the :nos:. LOL LOL

Id love to have one. That way i dont have to listen to air being sucked. Just aint got cash for it.

I gots to get one of these.... Very nice Joe. You definitely have a knack with that machine of yours.

Looks great, like all Joe's stuff.

Wouldn't want to forget about it while off-roading!

Also, even though the tanks are plastic - I'd hate to try getting into one with a screwdriver... cordless drill is far easier.
