HELP: Truck Wont Start After Pretty Big Upgrades

When you did the studs would be my best bet. If you got a little gap between the block and head it would just flow in.

One of the many reasons we will not do a stud replacement without pulling the head. Some folks get lucky, some don't.

The crazy thing is, when I loosened the OEM bolt i heard a fluid noise, like fluid was moving around. I thought to myself, that doesnt sound normal but kept going anyways.

Thanks for the help men.

Wow that sucks! Ive done a bunch of cummins stud installs one at a time and have never had a issue or heard of anyone having a issue doing it that way!

10:30 to 10:45 on that cylinder gets my vote. Take good pictures of the head gasket and post.

Looks like your gasket was already toast before you unclamped during the stud install.

I have a new shop light that I am installing tomorrow. If this is not enough light I can retake them tomorrow.

When you installed the studs was the engine still a little warm and the radiator cap still on, full of coolant?

Unless you find a problem, don't worry about the heat treat on the crank.

Nope, the oil and coolant we're both drained and the truck had not been started for about 24 hrs

One of my friends said that the purple was from dye that they use to balance it? I have never heard of that

It's nothing to worry about.
MHO... You need to get that engine into capable hands before you go on digging any further.

That's what I was wondering. Hopefully they were like that prior to install!

That is the only thing I can think of. So far there are no bolts missing. Truck is not new, I bought it with 32k miles on it about 90k miles ago

I took the pistons and rods out this morning. I am going to try and get the crank gear off and get it to the machine shop

Leave the crank gear alone.

How am I suppose to remove the crank without pulling the gear off?

I have a guy at the machine shop that said he will mic the crank which will help me order the correct bearings.
I realize you are a shop but I am so far away in tx that I am not (not) giving you business in pa.
Everything i have learned has been by doing exactly what i am doing. I am ok with mistakes, i do expect them. I do not know everything but this is how I learn the basics.
