Hydraulic Upgrade

dan thanks for getting those hydrualics shipped i got them put on this afternoon but still hard to get into gear so kinda sounds like ill have to deal with it or bite the big one a rebuild my nv5600 or something

If my hydraulic upgrade doesn't fix the problem, I am going to just beef up my shifter and make it longer, and ram it through the gears, LOL. Just kidding, but if mine gets much worse, I am, going to have to fix it lol

I've had the southbend hydros on mine for quite a while now,I like it,the clutch engages near the bottom,I like that better than the stocker that engages clear up near the top.
(I didn't have any trouble with the clip at all....the first time...)

Thats interesting. mine are the opposite way. My dead stock hydraulics would barely disengage at the floor and the new SBC hydros engage towards the middle to top like after I had my clutch installed.
I took the lower dash panel off and looked at the clip before messing with it. It didn't fight me at all.

The install is very simple. A second set of hands really helps feed the assembly through the engine bay though. I took pictures comparing the stock and upgraded hydraulics but I loaned out that memory card, I'll work on getting them up.

Ok. Questions. Now that I've had the hydros upgraded for a week now and pulled several trailers (some a little heavy :D) I'd have to say that it does shift a heck-u-a-lot better. My double clutching 3rd (for the last year) has gone away. I just have to pause in the middle of the shift and let the sync's catch up. Apparently they aren't trashed, just maybe a little marred up and slow. Regardless, my questions is......what makes the truck hard to get into 1st or 2nd when at a stop, in neutral, everything spinning, push clutch and try a gear? I kinda know what the internals of the tranny look like....but never touched them. So, if we know the clutch is disengaging, what could make it hard to catch that first gear? Anyone expand on that?

yep, they are ready to go, just have to adjust them.

What kind of adjustment do they have? For my Chevy application, I bought the SBC hydrx with my DD, but in my case the throw rod on the master cylinder was an 1" or so to short, so we had to cut it and braze a 1" extension on, its pretty sturdy and should hold up but J/W if it fails can I get an inch of adjustment out of yours?

i am still havin the same problems, even with the upgraded hydros. The clutch feels like its not fully disengaging. I pulled the black clip/spacer out from between the slave cylinder and the bell housing and it didnt seem to help at all. It just doesnt seem to have enough push to disengage the clutch. Didnt really want to have to tac on an extension.... any other ideas to on how to get a cleaner shift??

btw, approx 5-8 secs between shifts

your's is different being a chevy on top, what we do is take the stock measurement and build a rod that is adjustable 1/2" in and 1/2" out from the stock length.

Well got my hydraulics today, put them in, took it down the road, and what do you know, no motor oil pressure, what some luck. I hope it is the guages or something other than what it really shows, but anyways, I did make some pics of the new and old side by side. I will try to post them if anyone wants to see.

Ya, lets see the pics. You didn't mention if the upgrade helped or not. :poke: You just mentioned that they ruined your oil pressure. :hehe:

Haven't drove it enough to tell ya that one. Just lost the oil pressure on the motor. Great luck on my end. The pictures aren't that good, but its what I had time for.

Those are what I made, not very good, but maybe it will help. I was limited on time to get it all done, so just took some quick pics of them. Maybe I will get my oil pressure back today, going to check everything on it, but so far nothing has shown up.:bang

who's kit is that? i thought valair/sbc had a 2 piece line?

thanks for the pics, i really need to ditch my ghetto rigged 12v hydraulics for a nice set, but i cant justify spending $300 to replace something that is working prefectly.

that looks like the valair hydros i put on my truck i can get pics of 2002 hydors compared to 1996 hydros i gutted them to try and put the 2002 rod in a 1996 hydros but no go since they use different clips to hold the rod end i did notice that the 1996 hydros were made alot better than the 2002 imo

with out a doubt the 94-97 hydraulics and better than the 98-02's.

i have 94 hydraulics in my truck w/ a valair clutch which i think has a 3400lb pressure plate, and now that its mounted to the firewall securely and i lengthened the rod 1/4" i really dont think it could work any better.

a few places sell adapters to use a -3 line on the master and slave, so for about $100 you can upgrade the 12v hydraulics pretty easily.

i thought about lengthen the rod on the 1996 hydros but i just decided to get the aftermarket ones they werent that much anyways even tho i had then overnited to me since i had a sled pull the next day

That is SBC's upgrade. I got a buddy with a Valair set, and figured I would go with the other and see whos felt the best.
