Hydraulic Upgrade

subscribing! this is all really good information seeing how i'm having the same problem most of you are having. installed a SB DD about 2 months ago and it has always been hard to get in to gear. its like i have it push in the peddel w my toes to get it all the way down so it will go in to gear. i just thought it needed to break in or somthin. hasent changed in 2 months so i guess not. :bang

I changed the tranny fluid last night. I drained it into a very clean white bucket to try to see if there was any crap (or synchro material) in it. Overall, the fluid was clean as a whistle. There was some slight discoloration and some metallic sheen on top. I think some of it was the friction modifier that I reserched and added. Looked like it didn't mix well or something.

After discussing with a gentleman at work a few moments ago, an old sprint car fanatic, we came to a few more conclusions. Synario: Truck is off. Everything not moving. Push clutch to the floor. Start motor. If the truck doesn't drop right into gear it is apparent that the clutch is not completely dis-engaging from the flywheel. The tranny should never spin up until the clutch is let off. Does everyone agree with this?

So...I think I'll get the clutch upgrade and hope it helps. The fluid change did nothing. My nieghbors 2001 is doing the same thing. Why would dozens of trucks start it at the same time? :bang

Weather change and similiar age of trucks.

Very true. When tranny reaches 150F or so according to the attitude, it shifts a heck-uv-a-lot better. :D Now that it isn't 30 freakin' degrees every morning it sure helps.

Look at the common factors, and you decide.
Are they both in close proximity to each other? If so....

Lack of intellect?
Too many common traits from the local gene pool?
The list of insults could go on and on!

LOL

is this a symptom of failed hydro's or something more internal?? i has this happen to me the other day where the truck wouldnt come out of gear and continued to pull... ended up ordering a clutch hyros and shaft... it wouldnt be an internal issue would it?

sbc told me mine was the pressure plate cause at first i figured hydors but i guess i will find out sunday when i pull the pressure plate and install the new one and see what happens if not i will order new hydros

I am going with hydraulics and hoping for the best on mine!

Mine will be ordered today from someone....still deciding who to buy from. I did the same thing a few times now, with truck off, pump clutch pedal, hold tight, then start it. I can drop any gear slick as heck. Once I let out and spin the tranny up for the first time, it seems to be worse in any gear. I'm hoping for the best. I will post up pics and info when I get it for all to share the info.

Done. Should have new parts by Wednesday. :D Anyone want to book the band? I need some cash. :hehe:

I spoke to one of the South Bend guys at TS on this very subject, basically not getting enough stroke out of the slave cylinder. If you have the upgrade hydraulics did you install them with or without the shim? When you get the kit the slave actuator rod is held in by a little piece of plastic, following the direstions you just bolt it in place and hit the pedal. The shim is on the mounting pad for the slave cylinder, usually a black plastic piece, remove the slave, remove this pad and reinstall without it.

Viola, more stroke on the slave. I need to do it to mine, just haven't yet.

More stroke. I think that is what I need Billy. Thanks. :hehe: The wife will appreciate your info. :hehe:

So it's where the slave cylinder bolts up to the tranny? Mine's still on there, and if it's going to benefit me any, I'll take it off. Take pics when you do it, please! :thankyou2:

I am not going there :bang :bang

If I can remember to I will, should be doing it this weekend.

Sure am tired today. :poke::rockwoot::thankyou2:

So long as you are tired enough to keep your mind out of the gutter on a serious tech thread :poke: LOL LOL

I just puled the spacer out of mine and it didnt make a difference at all, took about 5 min.

here's what i would do, get a small steering wheel puller or you can even make your own plate bolt it where the slave goes, run the slack out of the fork and screw it in another 1/2 inch, you should be able to shift gears and or spin the drive shaft if ,the clutch is releasing. If not then it would more than likley be internal. you can make a plate that bolts to the bell housing cut a hole in the middle and weld on a nut then run a long bolt through it to acheive the same results.
