II 14mm Pump

Ok my local pump shop has the same stand but only has a 15 hp. motor. They tell me they can spin any pump up to 5000 yes 5k rpm. Since the pump turns at half engine rpm this should be ok right?

Yeah, it's half crank speed for 4-strokers....so what the hell diesel motor turns 10k rpm that requires this kind of test stand capability?!? Sounds like a marketing guy!

I mean, I've heard of 7710 rpm, but not more than that :D

Well, waitaminnit here, a 2-stroke Detroit would run a pump at crank speed....and there's Detroits in big rig pullers supposedly well over 5k rpm....so maybe....

Anyway, I've heard much higher HP requirements to spin pumps loaded against the injectors actually being used in the setup.

CDS told me that a lot of shops just run the pumps open with check valves to measure the flow, and they said this method is kinda meaningless.

This is correct..... Plus shop will also flow pumps with huge orfices, lines, etc. to get big numbers. No way a 15 HP motor is going to spin a 14mm pump using the correct setup.

Detroit 2 strokes use unit injection...not really a traditional injection pump;)

I've heard of 50hp stands.

CDS told me the same thing...if I wanted a pump flowed, send the injectors I was gonna use too!

I thought they did...but I didn't want to say without knowing for sure:D

We'll see if I need to use it soon;)

The only way that I know of to spin a good stout p-pump 850 or so on a 15 hp bench and to masure with full rack travel is to do it with all the deliery valves out and do one at a time. Also you want to be carefull on what they tell you it has for volumes, and how they tested it for that.

Oh I hear ya, but can they still use the UI at big power levels on the pullers?

I was kinda thinking they didn't, but I dunno.

I do know when those things come to life, it's downright scary. Awesome!

There is a guy here in misery that has a large detroit on a mod tractor. He is not a big fan of the injection system on it. He has talked about putting a Mack v8 pump on it. Busses in new york were using the detroits with methanol or something and they had the larger injectors he is using those, but still can't get the fuel he needs.

Lots of good info here guys, keep it coming. Does anyone know for sure II only has a 15hp stand?

The Cummins-run stand would be cool, but the big advantage of the electric would be that you could read the HP required to drive the pump, directly from the motor amperage.

Didn't Mr. Straley say his pump was way way up there in terms of HP to drive?

I would assume that a 15HP stand would be cheaper, and would suffice for just about everything other than battleships and pulling tractors :D

From the looks of the pictures it dosent look like they have anything special for a stand or larger motor.

I can't remember exactly how much horsepower II's stand is but when I was talking to Brady about it I know he said it was much more than that becasue he was explaining to me that 15hp stands can't spin the p-pump like it should and that his had plenty of power to spin it.

something doesn't add up here. a 100hp electric motor is 75kWatts at 100% efficiency, which is impossible. regardless thats at least 350amp motor running at 220. this thing would be the size of a oil drum.

yes we do and I love the feel of the stand running a sigma in the other room.

So Zach works for Columbus?

Joe I agree the fire pump I did plans on today had a 50 hp 480v 3 phase motor and it was about 2' in diameter and 2'6 long.

I thought there was a picture of CDS's stand floating around somewhere and the electric motor on it looked humangous.
