Industrial's Dragonfire Vp44 Feedback????

what about all the threads i see where pullers say "it's all in the set-up, a 700hp truck will walk all over a 900hp truck that has a poor set-up"

i think the newer monster pumps have made their name in drag racing...low 11's on fuel only and single chargers is pretty impressive. something that definitely has not been done on stock vp's

...BTW not trying to defend any one pump, just thinking out-loud...

Good point, but what I'm trying to say is this. Take a truck that makes say 560hp using a Monster pump & injectors only, no box. Very impressive, but here is my point. You put a box on that truck & you can't turn it above level 2 & you see 600hp? I think it is because a vp is still the baseline of the fueling. Monster pumps & DF have timing & fueling built in to the pump to make them feel more powerful, but I don't believe they are. Like Chip told me....A vp44 is still limited to the amount of timing that can be pulled by the pump, there is no way to modify this internally to the point where the truck can make big hp like a P-pump.

I had a chance to buy a new monster pump for $1600 when I bought the dragon fire, but bought the dragon for the warranty. I wish I would have went with the monster.

Has anyone had either one on a bench to see how much they flow?

i remember you having problems with the dragon fire...did you get it replaced under warranty?

No, I tried a different ecm, then put the SO pump back on and it ran the same as it did before. I got tired of messing with it and ended up selling it.

yea that seems to be a common problem...

i thought i read about MP mike ranting that the ECM was holding back the fueling/timing/rpm etc..., rather than his pumps

i really cant blame you for giving up and going to mechanical injection, but if that thing was under warranty i would have given them a run for their money....then again, maybe you did the right thing after all the bad things i read about II's warranties....though i cant speak from experience

if vp pumps are sensitive to a tune to make really good power, could it be that tuners out there just dont have the right juju for these newer less common pumps?

a tune that works great for an SO pumps doesnt mean that it will be100% effective on the monster or DF pumps

I heard the same from Chip himself. The ecm also has protection against a "runaway" engine. This is the reason why the Redline box bypasses the ecm & controls the pump. I have run a toggle switch to my fuel pump because the ecm was cutting power to my lift pump circuit once I got over 4100rpm. I've spent alot of time talking to Chip & other good sources about these engines. Mike can giveyou fuel, but I don't see the point if timing isn't present to make big power.

i can't disagree with that...

Another good point.

how did you figure that out?

I noticed that my fuel pressure was jumping up/down when the truck would cut out. Then I hooked up the test light & watched it cutting in/out. I called Chip & he told me all about the ecm cutting power when it detects a runaway engine. I had a thread up a few weeks back.

never caught that thread...ill look it up

i have never used II pumps.....but i know people that have tested them and said that it was not as strong as a Monster

a monster will make great power if you have the correct set-up

i run a monster with a big set-of injectors and with a 66/71/13 over a S480 with R/C i still can't clean up the smoke

$.02

I would like to see what a Monster pump would do if someone had a adjustable cam gear to gain the timing needed to make big power. Seems to me like the fuel is there.

have you made any quarter mile passes??

Yes we have, but not enought to find the right settings to gain more time.We have been Pulling more then Drag Racing.Hopefully we can get good times in Boise,Idaho!! Going to give her the Onion when we are down there!!

I dont beleive an adjustable cam gear can help as the VP searches for its own timing electronically. If you install the cam gear one tooth off it will still find its timing(never tried this). Timing has to be acheived via electronics, as I unerstand. However I have possitive results with max timing on an Edge box. I wish I could try more!$.02 If I am wrong someone please set me straight.
